Students build experimental car that can travel over 2,000 miles on one gallon of fuel

Students in Utah have created a test vehicle that can travel an incredible 2,145 miles using just one gallon of fuel.

More and more people are choosing electric vehicles as they look for ways to reduce their impact on the environment. While gas-powered cars are still common, growing worries about pollution and fuel efficiency are pushing drivers toward cleaner options.

Students at Brigham Young University in Utah have created an incredibly fuel-efficient vehicle named Supermileage. It can travel hundreds of kilometers using just one liter of ethanol.

Students built the car for a challenge

The car was designed for the Shell Eco-Marathon, a yearly contest where teams compete to travel the farthest on the least amount of fuel.

To achieve incredible fuel efficiency, the team removed all unnecessary features from the vehicle. The car’s body is made of lightweight carbon fiber, bringing its total weight down to just 49 kilograms. It also has a very small 30ml fuel tank and only one seat, designed for drivers 5’4″ and under.

The engineers discovered that this vehicle could travel from Utah to New York on just one gallon of fuel. However, it only reaches a top speed of 23 miles per hour and needs to be refueled approximately every 20 miles.

While the vehicle achieves an incredible 2,150 miles per gallon, it’s not designed for widespread use because it’s very basic and has restrictions on who can operate it.
