The official trailer for the upcoming Street Fighter movie from Paramount features Andrew Koji, playing Ryu, performing the iconic Hadouken move in exciting action sequences.
This is Capcom’s third attempt at a Street Fighter movie, following films in 1994 and 2009 (The Legend of Chun-Li). The new movie, directed by Kitao Sakurai, boasts a well-known cast including Koji, Noah Centineo, David Dastmalchian, Cody Rhodes, Jason Momoa, and 50 Cent.
Street Fighter isn’t the only fighting game heading to the big screen this year. Mortal Kombat 2 is also coming out in May, and a playful rivalry has already started between the two franchises. This began when Andrew Schulz, who stars in the Street Fighter movie, jokingly suggested that Mortal Kombat wouldn’t be as popular.
Now that the first trailer for the Street Fighter movie is out, viewers can decide for themselves if it lives up to the video game. The trailer showcases costumes and fight scenes that closely match the game, including Ryu’s iconic Hadouken.

I just saw the Street Fighter trailer and I’m so hyped! It really focuses on Ryu and Ken – Noah Centineo is playing Ken, by the way – and how Chun-Li is bringing them back together for the World Warrior Tournament. Apparently, they haven’t teamed up in years! It looks like Ken’s been through a rough time, getting totally beaten up by Balrog (50 Cent is perfect for that role!), and he’s looking for a way to make things right. Ryu, meanwhile, seems to have completely withdrawn from everything. It’s going to be awesome to see them fight again!
Okay, I just watched the new trailer, and it’s wild! By the end, Ryu and Ken are literally fighting in the street, and Ryu actually does his Hadouken – a big blue fireball flies across the screen! It’s awesome because it shows the movie isn’t taking itself too seriously and is really embracing the crazy, fun energy of the old Street Fighter games, especially with how the characters look and fight.
The video clearly features Guile (played by Cody Rhodes) and his long blonde hair, and the villain M. Bison (David Dastmalchian) in his signature military uniform.
People watching the trailer on YouTube reacted positively, with many praising the visual effects. One commenter said seeing a real fireball with the Hadouken was exciting, and another appreciated the movie’s embrace of over-the-top action, calling it ‘great.’
Many believe we’re currently experiencing a high point for video game adaptations. One fan noted that movies like those based on Street Fighter, Sonic, and Mario demonstrate this, while another celebrated having both faithful adaptations of Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter released in the same year.
