Although the Star Wars movies haven’t been as dominant in theaters lately, the franchise is doing incredibly well on television. Disney+ has become the go-to place for Star Wars shows, with both animated and live-action series delighting fans for several years now.
For a while, The Mandalorian was seen as the best Star Wars show on Disney+. But now, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is challenging that title. Many fans and critics agree it’s the most thrilling Star Wars story we’ve seen in years, and it’s quickly becoming a new favorite.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Is A Game-Changing New Star Wars Tale
Following the events of a famous story, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord puts Darth Maul in the spotlight like never before. The series boasts stunning animation—even better than the final season of The Clone Wars—a more serious and grown-up feel, and some incredibly thrilling lightsaber battles. Shadow Lord has quickly become a hit, earning a perfect 100% score from critics and a 95% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the most praised Star Wars series in recent years.
Now that Din Djarin and Grogu from The Mandalorian are heading to the big screen in a new film, there’s an opportunity for other Star Wars stories to take center stage. With the main storyline of the bounty hunter and his young companion evolving, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is perfectly positioned to become the next big hit.
Asajj Ventress quickly became a favorite among dedicated Star Wars fans. Despite appearing to die in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, strong fan interest led to her official return in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. There, she evolved from a Sith apprentice into a more independent and dangerous figure, becoming a significant adversary for characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka Tano.
Darth Maul evolved from a simple, visually striking villain in The Phantom Menace into a truly compelling character thanks to his appearances in The Clone Wars. While the series left his fate open-ended, the new comic Maul – Shadow Lord finally delves into the details of his ongoing story.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Outdoes The Mandalorian In Every Major Way
As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve been thrilled to see Disney bringing more live-action shows to life with series like The Mandalorian, Andor, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew. But honestly, a lot of them haven’t quite hit the mark with fans – even The Mandalorian, which started so strong, stumbled with its third season. It keeps reminding me that Disney really shines with its animated content, and Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is just another perfect example of that strength.
This installment of the series is its most ambitious yet, diving deep into its characters. The animation and visual style are outstanding, and the story unfolds at a perfect pace with incredible world-building. Maul – Shadow Lord delivers a truly intense Star Wars experience – something fans have been hoping for a long time. Darth Maul is an iconic and beloved character, and this solo story is a welcome addition that he rightfully earned.
Look, I’ll be honest, The Mandalorian hasn’t always hit the mark for me. But Maul – Shadow Lord? Wow. It really nails it. It’s brilliant how it blends stuff we already love about Star Wars with totally new characters and ideas. It feels so fresh – like a gritty crime thriller set in that galaxy far, far away – but it still feels like Star Wars, you know? It gives you that familiar world-building and characters we all crave, but in a way that’s completely unexpected.
It looks like animated shows are now the main focus for the future of Star Wars on television, and that’s a good thing. With The Mandalorian moving to movies, and a new animated series called Maul – Shadow Lord ready to go, the shift makes perfect sense.
Even after just four episodes, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is already proving to be exceptional. If the rest of the series maintains this level of quality, it’s likely to become the best Star Wars story ever told.
