A driver was pulled over for going almost twice the speed limit and explained to officers they were rushing to get Chinese takeout.
Police officers have heard just about every excuse imaginable from speeding drivers. Some commonly claim they’re rushing to a doctor’s appointment, while others mention a family emergency. Occasionally, a driver will simply admit they were speeding.
Police in Northern Ireland pulled over a driver in Kilrea, County Londonderry, who was going almost twice the speed limit.
This time, the reason given wasn’t a family emergency or hospital visit. Instead, they said they were quickly picking up Chinese food and needed to rush to get their meal.
Police stopped hungry driver at over 135 mph
On April 18th, Northern Ireland’s Road Policing and Safety unit reported the incident on Facebook.
Earlier this evening, one of our teams was driving towards Kilrea when a red Mitsubishi Evo passed them. They measured the Evo’s speed on the A26 Lisnevenagh Road and found it was often over 135 mph – almost twice the speed limit for that road.
The driver claimed they were on their way to get Chinese food. They will appear in court and may lose their driving license as a result.
Okay, so the police told me they couldn’t actually take the car because it was insured, which is good. But they did file a report with the intention of potentially prosecuting the driver, which is a little worrying, honestly.
Okay, so this is a weird one. I was reading about this guy in Washington State who got arrested – and get this, it was his 98th time! Apparently, he took off in a car when the police tried to pull him over, leading to a chase. Definitely not your typical news story, and a far cry from anything I usually see while gaming!
In California, a 41-year-old man facing charges for stealing a car showed up to his court hearing… driving the stolen vehicle!
