At CinemaCon, Sony unveiled a new clip from the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which will conclude the critically acclaimed Miles Morales story.
Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black announced the subtitle for their upcoming Jumanji film: ‘Open World’.
During the video game presentation, attendees saw a first look at the Resident Evil movie directed by Zach Cregger. Sony also revealed plans for an animated, R-rated Bloodborne series, with JackSepticEye helping to guide its creation. Beyond these announcements, Sony’s CEO had a broader message for the gaming industry as a whole.
Sony chief tells exhibitors to make movies “affordable again”

At CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Monday, April 13, 2026, Sony’s Tom Rothman presented a three-part strategy to revitalize the movie theater experience.
Speaking with Deadline, Rothman said while things are currently going well, movie ticket sales are lower than they were before the pandemic, and everyone needs to work on improving that. He explained that their plan is to create a diverse range of high-quality films that appeal to many different viewers.
He then addressed the exhibitors, emphasizing their crucial role, before sharing his plans.
Rothman suggested that the film industry should require longer periods between releases, even if it means some films can’t be shown as often.

When lockdowns began, movie studios started releasing films simultaneously in theaters and on streaming services. This significantly reduced the traditional wait time – previously at least 45 days – between seeing a movie in a cinema and being able to watch it at home, a practice that often receives criticism.
He then proposed a couple of changes that sparked some debate: cutting down on excessive advertising and significantly shortening the lengthy pre-show segments that some venues use. He urged them to move away from relying so heavily on ads.
“And three, affordability is by far the hardest. Going to the movies must become affordable again.”
According to Deadline, Rothman’s announcement received only a few polite claps. He finished by acknowledging the challenges ahead, saying, “This won’t be easy, it will be hard. I know business has been difficult, and I’m supporting you because you’ve all been great.”
