Stefan Pildes, who runs the SantaCon event, is accused of taking over $1 million that was intended for charitable donations.
Federal prosecutors have filed charges against the leader of SantaCon, alleging they stole over $1 million that was meant for charitable causes.
The FBI is looking into claims that Pildes’ yearly event raised $2.7 million, but most of the money didn’t go to charity. Investigators allege the funds were instead spent on lavish purchases like luxury homes, high-end cars, and trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas.
So, I was reading CNN, and apparently this guy, Pildes, entered a not guilty plea on April 15th. He got out on a $300,000 bond, which is… a lot of money. Just thought I’d share what I saw in the news while I was taking a break from gaming.
The founder of New York City’s popular SantaCon bar crawl, Stefan Pildes, was arrested Wednesday and charged with wire fraud. Authorities allege he misused hundreds of thousands of dollars collected through charitable donations associated with the event.

FBI seeking information from SantaCon attendees
I was shocked to hear about this! Apparently, this guy, Pildes, really ruined the holidays for a lot of people – tens of thousands, actually. And it’s not just about the disappointment, he also stole over a million dollars that should have gone to local charities. It’s awful, according to the FBI’s James C. Barnacle, Jr.
After the story gained traction on social media, with many people sharing about their experiences at SantaCon, the FBI asked for information from anyone who might be a victim related to their investigation.
The FBI in New York is asking for help identifying anyone who may have been victimized by Stefan Pildes, the organizer of the annual SantaCon event in New York City. Pildes has recently been accused of wire fraud, and the FBI is looking into potential victims from at least 2019 to the present.
The FBI thinks Pildes mainly focused on people attending SantaCon who bought tickets, and the bars involved, starting in October 2019 and continuing to the present day.

What is SantaCon?
SantaCon is a yearly event in New York City where people dressed as Santa Claus visit different bars. Participants buy tickets that give them access to these venues, and depending on the ticket type, they might get discounts or skip the line at certain bars.
As you might expect, most people at the event dress as Santa Claus, or wear some kind of Christmas costume.
Although SantaCons happen in many cities worldwide, only the New York event is currently being investigated.
Okay, so this is a weird one. I read about this Canadian town where someone tried to ruin Christmas for everyone! They put up signs during the parade telling kids Santa wasn’t real – can you believe it? The police actually had to step in and stop them. It’s way different than anything I’ve dealt with in my gaming sessions, but definitely a buzzkill for those kids!
