Robot attends high school ceremony and receives very own certificate

In a Chinese high school, a human-like robot named Shuang Shuang strolled on the graduation stage, exchanged handshakes with a teacher, received an award, and struck poses for photographs.

The New York Post claims that a ceremony occurred at Shuangshi High School in China’s Fujian Province on July 1. Videos of this event rapidly spread online and gained popularity due to Chinese social media, with local sources interpreting the robot’s appearance as symbolic, emphasizing Fujian’s advancements in China’s fast-growing robotics sector.

Everyone – students and faculty alike – are observed applauding as the honorary student receives their certificate from the teacher. Afterward, they turn towards the audience, causing great excitement among the school’s pupils.

Despite limited information regarding its technical details, the robot seemed capable of moving independently across the stage and executing the series of actions without any apparent human guidance.

It’s not the first occasion that China has garnered attention for incorporating robotics into real-life happenings. On June 28, 2025, Beijing staged the world’s initial autonomous robot football match, featuring six AI-driven humanoid robots competing in a 3v3 soccer game without any human intervention.

The occurrence attracted global focus as spectators cheered at the disorderly descent of bots, missed targets, and a robot being carried off following an impact. It’s worth noting that these robots were fueled by real-time algorithms and tactile sensors, enabling them to move the ball, protect goals, and navigate (albeit clumsily) across the field independently.

In China, robots are no longer confined to factories; they’re becoming integral parts of daily life. You see this in the form of delivery robots and self-driving vehicles. It’s evident that intelligent systems like Shuang Shuang aren’t mere novelties, but a significant part of the future.

So, who knows, maybe one day human students will be graduating alongside robots?
