He first gained widespread recognition for his charming performance alongside Paul Newman in the 1969 film *Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid*. Redford cemented his status as a romantic leading man with roles opposite Jane Fonda in *Barefoot in the Park*, Barbra Streisand in *The Way We Were*, and Meryl Streep in *Out of Africa*.
