In a recent interview with GQ, the actor responded to a long-standing story about himself – one that originally gained attention years ago and became surprisingly famous. He explained that while the story was true when he first told it, he thinks his body has changed since then.
Pattinson noted a recent change in his body, saying, “It’s very strange.” He jokingly added that he used to smell strongly of crayons.
Pattinson recalls the scent being strongly linked to a particular time in his life. However, he notes that the smell has largely disappeared as he’s aged.
Pattinson outgrows crayon body odor
He explained that people seem to lose their distinct scent as they age. “I hardly notice my own smell anymore,” he said. “I used to have a very strong, noticeable one.”
When pressed on the nature of that smell, Pattinson doubled down on the comparison.
He described the smell as having gone through phases, starting with something strong and unpleasant. “It used to be really harsh,” he explained, “but then it became more like a crayon smell.”
Pattinson shared his idea about why the trend of using crayons faded, playfully suggesting it might have happened around the time he was going through a personal change.
He described a strange change in his personal scent, saying it smelled like crayons when he felt a part of himself ending. He theorized this happened every seven years – that the scent of crayons signaled the end of one version of himself and the beginning of a new one, which had a fainter smell.
Now, Pattinson claims he barely notices any smell at all, even after intense activity.
He said he couldn’t smell anything, which he found strange. He explained that even when he’s active, like going to the gym, he still has no sense of smell.
Although the explanation might leave you with more questions than answers, Pattinson seems sure that those earlier, simpler times are over.
