As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, diving into the world of Honkai: Star Rail has been an exhilarating journey. The latest addition to the roster, Moze, has piqued my interest, not just because he’s a new face, but because of his unique abilities and potential in the game’s meta.
In the game Honkai: Star Rail, it’s now the time for certain players to try their luck in version 2.5. This update introduces Feixiao’s banner along with a triple rerun featuring Robin, Kafka, and Black Swan. Although the top-tier 5-star units often catch most players’ attention due to their superior performance, the new 4-star character, Moze, is also worth considering. As a Lightning-Hunt character, Moze will have an increased chance of appearing during the 2.5 banners, making it likely for players to acquire him and even some of his Eidolons. The real question is not if he’s valuable, but whether it’s advisable to invest time, energy, and Trailblaze Power into developing him.
4-star characters in the game Honkai: Star Rail, as well as other games by MiHoYo that use a gacha system, are generally less powerful than their 5-star counterparts. While some 4-star characters have found a place on key teams, particularly as support units, damage dealer 4-stars like Moze can often be underutilized due to lower stats compared to 5-stars. This means that Moze may not have as significant an impact as limited characters, especially when it comes to dealing damage as the main attacker. However, Moze possesses a distinctive and intriguing mechanic that can enhance the overall damage output of the team, and he works exceptionally well with teams focused on follow-up attacks. Therefore, it’s worth exploring how Moze will adapt within the current gameplay environment (meta).
Moze’s is a Strong Sub-DPS But Comes With a Slight Tradeoff
Moze’s equipment enables swift, frequent assaults, making him an ideal choice for teams focusing on multiple attacks. His go-to move is the combination of his Talent (Cascading Featherblade) and Skill (Fleetwinged Raid). Fleetwinged Raid strikes an opponent and labels it as Prey. This action simultaneously triggers Moze’s talent, causing him to vanish from the battlefield, rendering him invulnerable to attacks. This state is called his Departed State, and it comes with a set of advantages and disadvantages.
The Advantages of Moze’s Departed State
When an ally engages their target, Moze inflicts extra electric damage on it and uses one charge. Additionally, he follows up with a powerful strike, dealing between 300% (for one charge) and 512% (for four charges) of his attack power to the target every three charges.
- Reliable Damage and Excellent Follow-up Synergy: The additional damage for every ally attack makes each unit’s turn quite efficient. Plus, his follow-up deals decent damage and is especially useful when he’s used with Feixiao, as the latter gains one ultimate stack for every two ally attacks.
- Excellent Survivability:Enemies can’t target Moze in his Departed State, too. Therefore, he has the luxury of completely avoiding hits. Players have also pointed out that this can be advantageous when played with units like Fu Xuan. Her skill lets her tank 65% of the damage taken by an ally, so having one less unit to babysit on the battlefield can take her already amazing survivability to new heights, especially when taking area-of-effect (AOE) hits.
The One Pitfall of Moze’s Departed State
In his Departed State, Moze becomes invulnerable to friendly attacks. This means that buffs from Harmony units and healing effects won’t take effect if he leaves the battlefield. To circumvent this issue, players can adjust their team’s speed to ensure supports provide buffs at the start of each round before Moze enters his Departed State. Another approach is to use his basic attack when he takes the first turn and employ his skill during the following turn once it’s been buffed. However, this method is far less efficient compared to the initial strategy.
Moze’s Place in the Follow-Up Attack Meta
Moze’s multipliers and overall performance are generally lower compared to his 5-star equivalents, so players should anticipate using him mainly as a secondary DPS to boost their team’s damage and create chances for the primary DPS, especially Feixiao. However, even this role is in high demand by characters like Topaz and March 7th’s Swordmaster form. A potential suitable spot for Moze could be in an F2P team with March and Gallaher, as his abilities complement March’s Follow-ups and basic attacks, and Gallagher’s skills advance along with his ultimate and the Multiplication light cone. While it may not be as potent as a premium follow-up team, it’s budget-friendly and equally enjoyable to play.
