Even after five months since it was released, Predator: Badlands continues to be very popular on Disney+. According to data from FlixPatrol, it’s currently the eighth most-watched movie on Disney+ around the world.
Since its release on Disney+, Predator: Badlands has consistently been a popular choice for viewers. Its performance on the streaming platform mirrors the positive reception it received upon its initial release and continues to enjoy.
In 2025, Predator: Badlands proved to be another financial win for Disney, grossing $184 million globally and gaining momentum with a strong opening.
Predator: Badlands Continues Disney’s Predator Revival
As a big fan of the Predator franchise, I was really surprised by Predator: Badlands. It totally switched things up! For the first time, the movie actually focuses on a Yautja – one of the Predators themselves – as the main character. It’s a really interesting change from the usual human-versus-Predator storyline.
Predator: Badlands is the seventh installment in the Predator series and the third film in the recent revival started by director Dan Trachtenberg. This revival began with the 2022 Hulu release, Prey, and Badlands was released in theaters after Trachtenberg’s second Hulu Predator movie earlier in 2025.
The film has received a solid 86% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating it’s generally well-liked by critics. While not quite as high as the scores for Predator: Killer of Killers (95%) or Prey (94%), it’s a much more positive response than earlier Predator movies received.
What Is Predator: Badlands About?
In Predator: Badlands, Dek, a young Predator, attempts to earn his family’s respect by hunting seemingly invincible creatures on a deadly planet. He unexpectedly teams up with Thia (Elle Fanning), a damaged android from Weyland-Yutani, as they navigate a harsh and lethal world that constantly threatens to destroy them.
The positive reception to Predator: Badlands suggests we’ll likely see more Predator movies in the future. However, director Dane Trachtenberg recently signed a new deal with Paramount, which could affect things. He’s publicly stated his continued dedication to the Predator series, and in a previous discussion, hinted that both Predator: Badlands and Predator: Killer of Killers were designed to build the foundation for the next installment in the Predator story.
Trachtenberg explained that there are endless possibilities for expanding the story, whether through animation or live-action. They can introduce new characters, explore different time periods, and visit locations never before seen in this sci-fi world. He’s particularly excited about taking the franchise in completely new and uncharted directions.
Some viewers have questioned whether original characters will appear in upcoming movies or shows. The likely answer is yes – it’s definitely a possibility.
Predator: Badlands is now streaming on Hulu.
