The original Baywatch followed the lives of lifeguards working on the beaches of Los Angeles, and regularly featured a changing cast of actors. The show was known for its characters’ revealing swimsuits and often served as a launching pad for actors hoping to break into film. David Hasselhoff was the longest-running cast member, appearing in ten seasons before departing in season eleven.
With a new Baywatch series coming soon, it wasn’t clear if it would have any connection to the original show. But according to Variety, Erika Eleniak will be returning as Shauni McClain, a role she played in the first three seasons of Baywatch. This time, Shauni is a Santa Monica city councilwoman who will work with Stephen Amell’s character, Hobie Buchannon, as he organizes the yearly “Beach Games.” Hobie is the son of David Hasselhoff’s famous Mitch Buchannon.
Eleniak is the second original cast member confirmed to return for the reboot. David Chokachi was previously announced to reprise his role as Cody Madison, a character he played from seasons six to nine.

Before becoming famous for her 45 episodes on Baywatch, Erika Eleniak appeared in The Blob and the TV show Charles in Charge. Her role on Baywatch then led to movie appearances in films like Under Siege, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Chasers. Towards the end of her time on Baywatch, the show added Pamela Anderson, Nicole Eggert, David Charvet, and Alexandra Paul, helping to make the series even more popular. In later seasons, Yasmine Bleeth, Gena Lee Nolin, Donna D’Errico, Traci Bingham, and Carmen Electra joined the cast, and their careers also benefited from the exposure.
Jason Momoa is likely the most successful actor to begin his career on Baywatch. He’s gone on to star in major productions like Game of Thrones, Aquaman, and A Minecraft Movie, and he’s soon to appear as Lobo in Supergirl.
Besides Stephen Amell, known for his role in Arrow, the new version of this show features a cast of rising actors, social media influencers, and personalities, including Jessica Belkin, Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone, Brooks Nader, Noah Beck, and Livvy Dunne. A movie adaptation was released in 2017 starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, and Priyanka Chopra. While Dwayne Johnson played Mitch Buchannon, many saw it as a reboot, though original stars Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff both made brief appearances.
