Peacock released all eight episodes of its new show, The ‘Burbs, in February. This series is a fresh take on the popular Tom Hanks film. Now, just two months later, Peacock has decided not to continue with the show.
Good news for fans! The ‘Burbs has been officially picked up for a second season. This isn’t shocking, considering the show performed well after it premiered on Peacock on February 8th. For four weeks, it consistently ranked among Peacock’s top 10 most-watched shows, even though all episodes weren’t released weekly. Critics also generally liked the reboot, giving it an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
NBC and Peacock are excited that viewers enjoyed the first season of The ’Burbs and are bringing the show back for more. Lisa Katz, president of scripted content, praised the cast, led by Keke Palmer, and the team who successfully reimagined the classic film into something modern, funny, and heartwarming.
In the movie The ‘Burbs, a peaceful suburban community gets rattled when strange things start happening. After a new couple moves in, the neighbors become increasingly suspicious and start obsessing over what they might be hiding. It’s a lot like Tom Hanks’ 1989 comedy where he plays a man who believes his neighbors are involved in something dangerous.
The ‘Burbs is streaming on Peacock.
