NVIDIA reportedly delays future GPUs & cuts RTX 50 production as memory supply tightens

Okay, so I’m hearing that NVIDIA is having to change its plans for new graphics cards. Apparently, there’s a shortage of the memory chips they need, and it’s messing with both upcoming releases and even how many of the current cards they can make. It’s a bummer, honestly, because it means we might have to wait longer for the next generation of GPUs!

A recent report from The Information indicates that NVIDIA doesn’t intend to release a new graphics card for consumers in 2024 and is also reducing production of its RTX 50-series cards. This possibility was suggested earlier this year when NVIDIA didn’t mention any upcoming gaming GPUs during its CES presentations.

These changes are happening because of a widespread shortage of DRAM, a type of computer memory, which has caused many manufacturers to rethink their upcoming product releases and how much they plan to produce.

RTX 50 SUPER and RTX 60 timelines reportedly impacted

NVIDIA’s upcoming RTX 50 SUPER series of graphics cards was originally anticipated to be released this year. However, recent reports indicated a possible delay until the third quarter of 2026. Now, according to The Information, NVIDIA might not release any new graphics cards for gaming in the immediate future.

According to the report, NVIDIA is delaying the release of its next-generation RTX 60 “Rubin” graphics cards. Originally planned for late 2027, the launch is now postponed due to issues with memory limitations.

As a PC hardware enthusiast, I’m a little worried about a new report suggesting that if GPU companies keep delaying new releases, it could really mess things up for everyone else. It sounds like the companies that make graphics cards, and other manufacturers who rely on those new GPUs, could have trouble keeping up with new products and adapting to changes. Basically, less frequent GPU launches could create a ripple effect, limiting options and innovation for all of us.

The recent slowdown is happening because companies such as NVIDIA and AMD are focusing more on building infrastructure for artificial intelligence. This AI development is using up a lot of the most advanced memory chips and taking up significant manufacturing resources.

So, I’m hearing that NVIDIA is actually cutting production of the new RTX 50-series cards. That’s not good news for us gamers, honestly. It basically means these cards are going to be even harder to find and prices probably won’t come down anytime soon. Looks like I’ll be waiting a while to upgrade!

Currently, the only consumer products NVIDIA is expected to release soon are the N1X and N1 chips. These are ARM-based processors designed for computers that use artificial intelligence, not for typical gaming computers.

Last November, Nvidia announced a shift in focus, stating they are no longer primarily a gaming company, as their artificial intelligence hardware is generating unprecedented revenue.
