At the Galaxies Spring Showcase, Flat28 revealed a new trailer for their game, Glasshouse. It’s a turn-based role-playing game set in a unique world – a blend of feudalism and punk aesthetics – on the brink of a massive war. Currently, Glasshouse is planned for release on PC via Steam, though a specific release date hasn’t been announced.
In the game Glasshouse, developed by Flat28, you’re locked down in an apartment building and tasked with solving a triple homicide next door. The game combines a political conspiracy storyline with tough decisions and a lot of conversation, all within the framework of a role-playing game.
You can find the new gameplay trailer, along with a detailed description and screenshots, courtesy of Flat28, below. The official website is also linked here.
About Glasshouse
I’m really excited about this game called Glasshouse. It’s a turn-based RPG with an isometric view, set in this crazy world that’s kind of post-capitalist and feudal at the same time – they’re calling it ‘Feudalpunk’! It’s giving me major vibes from games like Disco Elysium and Pathologic, so I’m expecting a really deep story with characters I won’t forget. Apparently, your choices really matter, with branching conversations and multiple ways the story can end. It’s not just about the gameplay, though – it sounds like it’s going to make you think about some big ideas too, even after you stop playing.
I’m Wealdmaer, basically a building manager who really wants to be seen as a good guy, a righteous leader, if you will. But I’m trapped in this crazy situation – a full-blown crime scene I can’t get out of! My job is to deal with all the problems of the people living in Dormitory 73B, try to survive living with my roommates, and uncover this political conspiracy that’s really making me question everything I believe in.
Game Features
You’re a deputy trapped in your apartment building with a grim discovery: three people are dead, and you’re left with a lot of unanswered questions. Your decisions will determine what happens next, and the fate of your neighbors rests in your hands. Be ready for a difficult situation.
I’m really excited about the combat in this game! You can get right into building your own weapons and battling it out in turn-based fights. But if you’re not feeling aggressive, you can actually try to talk your enemies into surrendering – which is a really cool option, honestly!
Discover your political beliefs and improve how you discuss them with the Political Compass. Understanding different viewpoints is key – every character in this world has their own political leanings, so pay attention to what they say!
Improve your skills by reading books and crafting useful items with the Workbench!
Glasshouse is a captivating theatrical experience, drawing inspiration from classic Greek tragedies. The story unfolds as if it’s a predetermined play, narrated by the Director. As you explore, you’ll be guided by the Chorus, representing the inner voices of the main character’s self.
In Lundonstoch, every path leads to a complex outcome. With World War looming, Glasshouse offers a post-capitalist world where your choices matter – experience over eight different endings and determine your legacy!
Roleplay in Lockdown
Lundonstoch is a tightly packed neighborhood bracing for a potential atomic attack, and the city has gone into lockdown. You’ll navigate the confined spaces of your neighbors’ apartments, uncovering dark secrets and facing difficult decisions. While the city burns, your view is limited to the flames seen through the windows of your building.
Life in Dorm 73B is getting harder as the quarantine continues, and a dangerous political plot threatens everyone inside. With tensions rising, it’s hard to know who you can really trust, even among your roommates.
Turn-based Combat
Glasshouse Combat features turn-based battles reminiscent of classic Final Fantasy games, but with a unique puzzle element inspired by Fear & Hunger. On your turn, you can either attack or try to talk to your opponent. Attacks are determined by dice rolls that reduce the enemy’s health, while talking allows you to attempt to resolve the situation through dialogue options influenced by your character’s political beliefs.
If you can skillfully exploit your opponent’s weaknesses, you can significantly lower their resistance. This resistance, or ‘Threat Bar,’ determines how easily you can influence them – if yours is higher, you have a chance to make them give up. Every encounter is a challenging fight against a unique opponent with their own motivations, goals, and personal life, not just mindless enemies.
Build Your Political Class
It’s natural to have beliefs, and even choices in games can be political. In Glasshouse, you earn ‘Points of View’ and use them to shape your character within a political system based on five different ideologies. You’ll develop a unique political approach, face tough ethical choices, and try to build good relationships with those around you.
Every student in Dorm 73B has unique political beliefs. Find out what they are by talking to people and completing quests however you choose.
Everything has a consequence, be careful not to set off storms.
More Than Just Dialogues
The Glasshouse Dialogue system is full of engaging interactions. Using the “Interaction Tab,” players can explore branching conversations with puzzles, quick reaction events, collectibles, hidden areas, and other surprises. Inspired by traditional tabletop role-playing games, we’ve built a dialogue system that feels dynamic and unpredictable, always prioritizing gameplay.
Glasshouse places a strong emphasis on dialogue, a key element of any great computer RPG. What sets it apart is the ‘Cunning’ system, which subtly changes conversations based on items you’re carrying, unlocking new options and surprising interactions.
The World of Glass
The world of Glasshouse is broken into smaller, isolated regions after the collapse of global systems. Following a major event called the Rifle Strike of 1828, traditional countries disappeared and were replaced by a system resembling feudal lords controlling territories. This led to a standstill in technological advancement and, over the next two centuries, created a vast economic gap between wealthy, thriving regions – known as Productive Fiefdoms – and poorer, struggling ones called Sterile Fiefdoms.
In 2028, the CoFoPo union—a group of over 52 independent, highly controlled territories—began a war to change the world order. Their aim was to bring the entire globe under a single capitalist system.
