Netflix’s Pop Culture Jeopardy! Will Be a Daily Affair

The game show Pop Culture Jeopardy! is switching from Amazon’s Prime Video to Netflix. And when the show, hosted by Colin Jost, returns for its second season next month, it won’t follow Netflix’s usual release schedule. Instead of releasing all episodes at once, new episodes will be released every day, according to Vulture.

Netflix, known for avoiding traditional advertising and live sports, is trying a new release strategy. Starting Monday, May 11th, and continuing through June 5th, they will release one 25-minute episode of Pop Culture Jeopardy! each weekday. This is reportedly the first time Netflix has used this daily, Monday-to-Friday schedule for a U.S. entertainment series, though they’ve experimented with similar approaches for talk shows like Chelsea in 2016 and John Mulaney’s Everybody’s in L.A. in 2024. Netflix originally picked up Pop Culture Jeopardy! last fall.

Netflix is experimenting with releasing episodes daily, but it’s already moved away from dropping entire seasons all at once, especially for unscripted shows. For instance, Love Is Blind releases episodes in groups over several weeks, and Star Search recently aired live episodes twice a week for a month. Even with popular scripted series, Netflix often divides seasons into two parts, releasing them a few weeks apart.

According to a source, Netflix and Sony Pictures Television, the producers of Pop Culture Jeopardy!, decided to release episodes daily for the second season because Jeopardy! fans are used to watching it every day. The first season, which ran from December 2024 to March 2025, had three episodes released each week on Prime Video. While Netflix doesn’t plan to offer many daily shows in the near future, they might try this approach with other programs if Pop Culture Jeopardy! is successful. A daily release schedule, similar to Peacock’s Love Island, could encourage subscribers to visit the streaming service more often, instead of just watching entire seasons at once. Netflix has also been trying to achieve this with its podcast releases, which include multiple new episodes each week.

Season two of Pop Culture Jeopardy! will have a slightly different structure, along with a new release schedule and platform. Instead of a full-season tournament, the Netflix version will begin with three weeks of standard Jeopardy! shows. Each day’s winner will move on to the next episode, with a maximum of five games in the regular season. After that, the nine teams with the most wins will compete in a five-day tournament to decide the overall champion.

For years, older episodes of Jeopardy! have appeared on various streaming services. However, the 2024 launch of Pop Culture Jeopardy! was the first time Sony created a brand-new Jeopardy! series specifically for streaming. Since then, Sony has also started streaming regular Jeopardy! episodes on Hulu and Peacock the day after they air, and recently released a special episode made just for YouTube. While Netflix hadn’t previously streamed daily episodes of a TV show, they did experiment with a daily trivia game called Trivia Quest in 2022, but it wasn’t successful.
