Netflix Is Doing What Hulu Is Failing to Do for Anime Fans This May

April 2026 brought a wave of new anime, including popular titles like Rooster Fighter, Snowball Earth, and the third season of Fire Force. However, Hulu’s anime lineup for May 2026 is surprisingly light, with only one new show currently confirmed to be released.

Hulu has announced that the English-dubbed version of Medalist Season 2 will be available to stream starting May 4, 2026. Right now, Season 2 is only available on Hulu in Japanese with English subtitles.

Meanwhile, Netflix is set to release a lot of new shows and movies in May 2026, including four based on popular anime and manga from Shonen Jump. You’ll find a list of these titles and when they’re coming out below.

The anime Medalist is based on the manga series of the same name. It tells the story of Tsukasa Akeuraji, a professional ice skater preparing to retire, and Inori Yuitsuka, an 11-year-old girl with a big dream: winning a gold medal. Despite being told she’s started training too late, Inori is determined, and Tsukasa agrees to coach her, pulling him back into the competitive world. The first season of Medalist debuted on Hulu in Winter 2025.

Fans of Shonen Jump have exciting new content to look forward to, including fresh seasons of One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen. Plus, Netflix will be adding Assassination Classroom and Akane Banashi to its lineup. Assassination Classroom is a unique anime about an alien with tentacles who becomes a teacher at a school for troubled students.

Koro-sensei, a remarkably resilient teacher with a secret plan to destroy the world, gives his students an incredible challenge: they must find a way to kill him within a year. The series first came out in January 2015.

While most manga published in Shonen Jump focus on action, this story centers around rakugo, a traditional Japanese storytelling performance art. The story starts with Shinta Arakawa, a talented rakugo performer, being wrongly forced out of the profession before he can reach the highest level.

Six years after his death, Shinta’s daughter, Akane – a skilled performer taught by her father’s old teacher – begins a quest for revenge. She joins the same school that ruined her father’s reputation, becoming a deadly assassin within its ranks. The series first aired in Japan on April 4, 2026.

Even just four months into 2026, Netflix has released a ton of anime content for its subscribers. April started strong with several big releases, including Season 2 of Dorohedoro on April 1st, The Ramparts of Ice on April 2nd, and Season 3 of Spy x Family on April 4th. Plus, the popular One Piece series continued with Season 2, which launched globally on Netflix in early March.

Netflix is staying current with the popular anime series One Piece. After a six-month break, the show returned on April 5, 2026, with a new story arc called Elbaf Island. New episodes are being released every week, starting on April 11, 2026.
