Nature Festival urges attendees to “dress appropriately” after being mistaken for nudist event

A wildlife festival in the UK has explained that attendees do not need to be nude, after some people mistakenly thought it was a festival where clothing is optional.

The Cumbria Nature Festival posted a clarification on Facebook after some people asked about the event, indicating they weren’t sure what it was about. Organizers wanted to address the confusion before it became a problem.

Festival offers to refund any mistakenly purchased tickets

Okay, so there was some weird stuff going around on Facebook, but I just saw a post from the Cumbria Nature Festival clearing things up. Apparently, people thought it might be a nudist event, which is… definitely not what it is! They’re all about wildlife and conservation, so it’s a festival for nature lovers, not, you know, anything else. Just wanted to set that straight!

We recently received an inquiry that prompted us to clarify: the Cumbria Nature Festival is for people who love and study nature – not those who practice nudism. While we welcome everyone and don’t make judgments, the event is specifically designed for wildlife enthusiasts.

They really asked us to make sure we dress properly, which is totally fair. And they also said if anyone accidentally booked something they didn’t mean to, to get in touch right away for a full refund. I’m glad they’re being so understanding!

The confusion arises because the words “naturalist” and “naturist” sound alike. A naturalist studies wildlife, while a naturist practices social nudity.

According to Sam Griffin, part of the festival’s organizing team, the recent confusion was simply a misunderstanding. He also mentioned that they haven’t needed to issue any refunds, suggesting attendees are still happy with the event even with the new dress code.

Cumbria Nature Festival runs from May 8 to 10.
