Monster Hunter Wilds Lagiacrus return fueled by official merch reveal

As a seasoned Monster Hunter veteran with over a decade of slaying beasts under my belt, I can confidently say that the anticipation for Lagiacrus’ return is palpable among the community. The aquatic leviathan has been sorely missed since its absence from Generations Ultimate in 2017 and the animation issues that derailed its comeback in Monster Hunter World only added fuel to our collective fire.

Fans of Monster Hunter World are speculating that the upcoming surge of official merchandise could signal the comeback of the widely expected water monster, Lagiacrus.

Since the release of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch in 2017, Lagiacrus has not made an appearance in any subsequent Monster Hunter games. Originally planned to reappear in Monster Hunter World, animation difficulties resulted in Capcom deciding to exclude it from the game’s final roster of monsters.

As a gamer, I’ve been quite bummed out, knowing that the Thunder Leviathan wasn’t included in the last update. Many of us had high hopes for a grand battle with this legendary creature. But as February 28, 2025 approaches, the release date for Wilds, there’s a growing excitement among players. We can’t help but keep our eyes peeled, hoping to catch any hints that suggest Lagiacrus might make a comeback!

Thanks to some fresh 20th Anniversary goods, excitement for Lagiacrus joining the lineup in World is even more intense.

Enthusiasts are eagerly embracing X, as they share photos of an exclusive line of Monster Hunter-themed pillows that have surfaced online. Although the Monster Hunter franchise has a history of launching an array of items such as bicycles and Fatalis computer chairs, the Lagiacrus pillow seems to sport a revamped logo design.

Fans are optimistic about the possibility of Lagiacrus making a comeback, but according to influential figure in Monster Hunter, Kogath, it might be best not to hold your breath on this one just yet.

Sure thing! “Indeed, the design of that icon seems slightly altered. It appears to be merchandise commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the top three monsters from our community’s poll. The style doesn’t quite align with Monster Hunter Wilds‘ usual icon design.

For enthusiasts hoping for hints about Lagiacrus’ comeback, this might be disappointing news. However, there’s something more tangible than a pillow to discuss. In the Monster Hunter Wilds Summer Games Fest trailer, we caught a glimpse of Balahara, a leviathan residing in deserts, who uses its snake-like form to burrow through sand.

Despite being visibly smaller than Lagiacrus, Balahara boasts intricate movements and swift, dynamic attacks, resembling the Lord of the Seas in some ways. As such, the mere existence of this creature among Wilds’ newest monsters might hint at a stronger connection or theory. So, while a Lagiacrus plush toy may seem trivial, Balahara could be hinting at something more substantial.
