McDonald’s became one of the world’s biggest sock sellers thanks to its Grinch Meal

Last December, McDonald’s surprisingly became a major sock retailer, all thanks to the popularity of its limited-edition Grinch Meal, according to one of its restaurant owners.

The recent holiday deal offering themed socks with certain meals was very popular and quickly sold out at many stores. Customers were curious about why more weren’t available, and one store owner revealed just how many pairs had been purchased.

On February 17th, a McDonald’s owner shared on X (formerly Twitter) that they purchased every pair of Grinch socks they could get. The sock manufacturer they worked with makes around 1.8 million pairs daily, and McDonald’s sold nearly 20 million pairs of the socks in the US. It took months to get enough supply delivered to all their restaurants.

The franchise owner explained that the total number of socks was enough to cover the feet of 7.4% of all adults in the U.S.

The statement was made after a popular online post by Pat Buckley highlighted a surprising fact: McDonald’s briefly became the world’s biggest sock seller last December. They sold 50 million pairs worldwide due to a promotion with their Grinch Happy Meal.

McDonald’s offered a special Grinch Meal in December as part of its holiday promotions. It included branded socks, which quickly sold out at many restaurants across the US due to high demand.

Following the popularity of the Grinch meal last December, McDonald’s has kept up the momentum by launching other limited-time offers and collaborations, like the OVO meal and a menu featuring Frank’s RedHot sauce in Canada.
