Mark Wahlberg stars in the new action comedy Balls Up, which recently started streaming. While critics didn’t love the movie, it’s become a hit for Amazon viewers.
Currently, Balls Up is the most popular movie on Prime Video worldwide, topping the charts ahead of films like Chris Hemsworth’s Crime 101, Omar Chaparro’s Vengeance, and Chris Pratt’s Mercy. Agent Zeta, an action thriller from Spain, completes the top five. This success for Balls Up comes shortly after its debut on Prime Video on April 15th.
Balls Up Is a Streaming Hit
Directed by Peter Farrelly, known for films like There’s Something About Mary, Balls Up is an action comedy with a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers behind Deadpool & Wolverine and Zombieland. The movie stars Mark Wahlberg and Paul Walter Hauser, along with Sacha Baron Cohen, Benjamin Bratt, Daniela Melchior, Molly Shannon, Eric Andre, and Luciano Szafir.
Okay, so I just heard about this movie, Balls Up, and it sounds wild! It’s about two American marketing guys who travel to the World Cup Final to try and get a condom sponsorship deal, but everything goes completely sideways. What starts as a normal work trip quickly spirals into a huge mess, and these two rivals have to team up and just wing it if they want to get out of trouble. Apparently, it’s got action, but it’s also surprisingly funny – a bit of an unexpected buddy comedy with Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Hauser. And, well, let’s just say there’s a lot of… stuff going on!
Mark Wahlberg Teases an Outrageous Comedy
Mark Wahlberg described his new movie, Balls Up, as one of his most hilarious projects yet. Speaking at the premiere, he told Fox News that while he’s made several comedies like Ted, this one stands out. He praised it as a classic buddy comedy with a completely ridiculous premise, explaining that the story’s wild situations allowed them to really go over the top. Wahlberg also shared that audiences are enjoying the film.
The film received overwhelmingly negative reviews, scoring just 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers were even less impressed, giving it a score of only 25%. Critics described the comedy as stale and one reviewer called it “criminally atrocious,” with absolutely nothing to recommend it. Another critic from Empire Magazine bluntly stated the film lived up to its disastrous title.
I recently watched Balls Up, which is now available to stream on Prime Video. If you’re curious, you can head over there and see what you think!
