Toward the end of March, popular online streamers Ludwig and Michael Reeves set off on a 3,000-mile motorcycle trip across China.
In a fun challenge called ‘Tip 2 Tip,’ a group of influencers decided to bike across the country following a unique set of rules: no maps, only speaking Chinese, and staying off highways.
The adventure began on March 21st and concluded on April 7th. During their journey, the two streamers exceeded their original goal, ultimately riding 4,000 miles – an additional 1,000 miles – from the South China Sea to the border with Mongolia over 16 days.
Their time off led to some unexpected adventures, including a run-in with the police, giving a stranger a ride, and a funny misunderstanding where they stumbled into a funeral – an incident that’s even become news in China.

Ludwig & Michael Reeves go viral in China with ‘Tip2Tip’ trip
On the fifth day of their travels, the livestreamers arrived at a bustling event in a small village. Assuming it was a local market or festival, they asked in Chinese if they could get something to eat, unaware that they had stumbled upon a family celebration.
Ludwig called it a “festival,” explaining that it had been happening daily for a month to honor a local man’s grandmother.
I was so touched to hear they were celebrating her incredible life – she’d just turned 104! Apparently, her family made it a point to all get together for every meal, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which is just beautiful.
According to the South China Morning Post, these events – known as “happy funerals” – aren’t about mourning, but rather celebrating the long life of someone who has reached a significant age, typically 90 or older.
I recently learned about these “happy funerals” and they’re really interesting! Instead of being all sad and about mourning, they’re designed to be a celebration of life – a really positive experience. That’s probably why Ludwig and Reeves got confused and thought it was something different!

A man named Li helped the visitors explore the area. His father, who used to be a professional chef, cooked them a meal of braised pork, fried eggs, and stir-fried carrots.
He explained to the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald that he had told the guests it was a funeral for someone who was 104 years old. He also mentioned that the main meal was already over, so they’d have to wait until 5 PM to eat.
Li posted a screenshot of his text conversation with Ludwig, which showed Ludwig apologizing for crashing the get-together and thanking Li for being a good host.
Ludwig admitted they were impolite to ask for food while on their way to a funeral and offered an apology.

After eleven days, Ludwig and Michael Reeves finished their trip. On April 7th, Ludwig shared a post on social media praising the kindness of the people in China towards the two motorcyclists.
This marks the second time the pair have undertaken the ‘Tip 2 Tip’ challenge. Previously, in early 2025, they cycled 2,000 miles across Japan, pushing themselves to travel without relying on smartphones or maps.
