As a seasoned researcher with a keen interest in both politics and cryptocurrencies, I find this development intriguing. While Coinbase’s Chief Financial Officer may have been somewhat unclear in her statement, it appears that the Future Forward PAC associated with Vice President Kamala Harris is indeed accepting crypto donations.

It seems like a Coinbase executive may have used incorrect terminology or lacked precision when stating that Vice President Kamala Harris is receiving cryptocurrency contributions

According to Alesia Haas, the Chief Financial Officer of Coinbase, she announced during a Citigroup event on Wednesday that she is currently utilizing Coinbase Commerce to receive cryptocurrency donations for her campaign. This news was initially reported by Fortune

However, as stated by a representative from Coinbase, when Haas mentioned accepting crypto donations, she was actually referring to the Future Forward USA Political Action Committee (PAC), not her own campaign. To confirm this, Coinbase Commerce has onboarded with the Future Forward PAC for cryptocurrency donations, as reported by CoinDesk

Although the Harris campaign does not accept cryptocurrency donations directly, Future Forward USA, a significant supporter of Harris, could suggest that Democrats are becoming more open to cryptocurrencies. Meanwhile, Donald Trump, Harris’ rival in the presidential race, has garnered support from crypto enthusiasts and businesses. The administration where Harris currently serves has faced criticism from the industry for what is perceived as an unfavorable stance towards cryptocurrencies

Future Forward serves as a hybrid Political Action Committee (PAC), initially utilized during President Joe Biden’s campaign. It has the ability to directly donate to his campaign, as well as fund independent advertisements that aren’t connected or coordinated with Vice President Kamala Harris’ team

At present, Harris’ campaign site doesn’t facilitate cryptocurrency donations, as per unawareness from the Crypto4Harris advocacy group. (Fortune was informed about this.)

A representative for the Harris campaign didn’t immediately comment when contacted by CoinDesk.
