Jennifer Lopez‘s return to romantic comedies now has a release date and first-look image.
Jennifer Lopez first became known for romantic comedies like Maid in Manhattan and Monster-in-Law. More recently, she’s explored different types of movies, including the action thriller The Mother, the science fiction film Atlas, and the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman. Both The Mother and Atlas were popular on Netflix, with Atlas becoming one of the platform’s biggest hits in 2023, though it’s no longer in the top 10 most-watched titles.
Jennifer Lopez returns to romantic comedies in the new film Office Romance, starring alongside Brett Goldstein from Ted Lasso. The movie premieres on Netflix June 5th and follows Jackie Cruz (Lopez) and Daniel Blanchflower (Goldstein), two colleagues so focused on work that they start a secret and complicated office romance. Jennifer Lopez is well-known for romantic comedies, but her latest Netflix film is being described as a bold and funny take on the genre. Lopez herself says it’s a traditional love story with a more modern and daring sense of humor. The director, Ol Parker, hints that it might surprise audiences expecting a typical Jennifer Lopez movie. Despite being very busy, Lopez felt she had to take on the role because the script, written by Goldstein and Joe Kelly, felt fresh and relevant, offering a new spin on the classic romantic comedy.
In the film Office Romance, Edward James Olmos plays the father of Jennifer Lopez’s character, marking a reunion for the two actors who previously worked together in the 1997 film Selena. The movie boasts a large and impressive cast, including Betty Gilpin, Tony Hale, Bradley Whitford, Amy Sedaris, Jodie Whittaker, and many others. Lopez also serves as a producer through her production company, Nuyorican Productions, alongside Goldstein and Kelly.
Brett Goldstein is a multi-talented creator and performer. He’s well-known for playing Roy Kent on Ted Lasso, but he also wrote several episodes of the show, even collaborating with a co-writer from his previous project, Office Romance. Beyond acting and writing, he’s a producer on Ted Lasso and will be back for its fourth season, set to release in August. He’s also a co-creator, writer, and executive producer of the popular Apple TV+ series Shrinking, where he also appeared as Louis in seasons two and three.
Following his success with Apple TV+, Goldstein is now bringing a new project, Office Romance, to Netflix. Meanwhile, Lopez continues her work with the streamer after previous hits like The Mother and Atlas. Given the consistently strong audience numbers for Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso and Shrinking, and the good performance of The Mother and Atlas on Netflix, a raunchy romantic comedy starring both Lopez and Goldstein has a lot of potential to be a streaming success.
Office Romance will be released on Netflix on June 5.
