Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell’s newest movie has just gotten a massive new update.
A new trailer for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming sci-fi fantasy film, The Great Beyond, debuted at CinemaCon. This is Abrams’ first time directing a feature film since 2019. Starring Jenna Ortega and Powell, the movie’s plot has been kept secret until now, but the trailer offered a first look at the story.
At CinemaCon, J.J. Abrams talked about his new film, The Great Beyond, and explained why he chose to direct an original story for his return to the director’s chair.
I feel fortunate to have contributed to major franchises, but I eventually realized I needed to focus on creating my own, original stories.
The first look at the film The Great Beyond was revealed, starting with a quote from H.G. Wells. The clip shows characters played by Powell and Ortega meeting in a store, and hints that they’re on a quest “for something pure,” though the details of their search are still a mystery. Samuel L. Jackson and Emma Mackey also appear, with Mackey holding a strange rock.
Check out a full description of the footage below:
The scene opens with vintage technology booting up – an old computer screen flickers to life, displaying a quote from H.G. Wells: “There is, though I do not know how there is or how it may be, another world out of sight and sound.” We then see Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega meeting in a store, along with a glimpse of Samuel L. Jackson. Powell switches on an antique radio, and Ortega’s voiceover explains they’re searching for something genuine, something that can’t be found in this world. Emma Mackey appears holding a glowing red stone, and Powell is shown running through a corridor before the title card appears.
