Jamie Dornan, known for his role in ’50 Shades of Grey’, has been cast as Aragorn in the upcoming ‘Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum‘. He’s one of several new actors joining the series.
The new movie is set after ‘The Hobbit’ but before Peter Jackson’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ films. It follows Aragorn, known as Strider, as he races to locate Gollum, hoping to prevent him from telling Sauron that Bilbo Baggins possesses the One Ring.
For weeks, there’s been speculation about who would play the part, especially after Andy Serkis revealed they were looking for a new actor. Viggo Mortensen originally played the role in the Lord of the Rings movies.
Many people thought Leo Woodall, known for his role in Bridget Jones, would be cast as the lead, but Warner Bros. has announced Jamie Dornan will play the part. Good news for fans of Woodall, though – he’ll also be in the movie, alongside Kate Winslet.

At CinemaCon, Warner Bros. revealed that Jamie Dornan will star as Aragorn, known as Strider, in the upcoming film, The Hunt for Gollum. He’s using the name Strider to keep a low profile.
So, the studio finally revealed the rest of the actors! Andy Serkis is back as Gollum, which is awesome, and he’s still doing Smeagol too. I’m really curious to see if they’ll show us more of Smeagol before the Ring completely messed him up, though. That would be pretty cool.
Woodall isn’t playing Aragorn, but a character named Halvard. He’s a ranger like Strider and will be joining him on a perilous quest, which is probably why some people thought he was cast as Aragorn, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood will reprise their iconic roles as Gandalf and Frodo Baggins, but it remains to be seen how significant their parts will be in the upcoming prequel.
Kate Winslet joins the cast as the character Marigol, and Lee Pace will return as the elf king Thranduil, a role he previously played in The Hobbit.
I’m so excited about the possibility of Jamie Dornan playing Aragorn in the new Lord of the Rings movie, The Hunt for Gollum! While we’re all eagerly waiting for more details, I thought I’d share a rundown of all the other movies I’m really looking forward to in 2026.
