Benedict Cumberbatch, famous for his roles in Marvel movies and Sherlock, recently shared his concerns about artificial intelligence in filmmaking. I’m honestly feeling quite down. It seems we’re heading towards a place where we’re smoothing out everything that makes us uniquely human – our imperfections, mistakes, and flaws. These things actually create the challenges and friction that are essential for truly original thought. Our desire for instant results, combined with having so much readily available, and our need for immediate satisfaction, all feel dangerous to the creative process.
The actor feels that our flaws and limitations are what make us human, and that creating anything worthwhile always involves challenges. Benedict Cumberbatch believes art develops gradually, often because of our imperfections. He thinks true fulfillment for an artist comes from pushing through difficulties and overcoming obstacles.
I’m not against new technologies – I see how they can be used alongside traditional methods in biochemistry and still produce meaningful results without sacrificing genuine creativity. In fact, it’s our very limitations as humans, and the stories we tell, that help us understand what it means to be human. The difficulty of the creative process – facing challenges, learning from mistakes, and striving for better ideas – is precisely what makes it so fulfilling.
