To get Sonia Belmont in the Vampire Survivors: Ode to Castlevania DLC, you need to locate seven Heart Refresh items following the opening of the Stallion Gate. This task becomes possible once you’ve overcome the Giant Bat boss. If you find yourself unsure about how to proceed, don’t worry! I’m going to provide a comprehensive step-by-step walkthrough below.

As soon as you start the game, grab the Castlevania Map first thing. It’ll be a huge help in finding bosses, understanding the stages, and locating Heart Refresh items with ease. Then, head west, following the green arrow on your screen (refer to the image above for guidance).

After seeing an arrow, you’ll find yourself at the edge of a forest that seems impassable from this spot. However, there’s a way! Traverse through the trees initially (first image), then descend until you stumble upon a path leading into the forest. Follow this path and soon enough, a hidden entrance to the forest will reveal itself. Venture inside and locate the map of Castlevania, as depicted in the second picture. Hit “Esc” to open the menu and examine your newly acquired map.

To locate the Giant Bat, head towards the east and make your way into the castle. You can also check the map for a red skull symbol I’ve pointed out in the initial image which will give you the precise position of the boss. Traverse the bridge to enter Dracula’s Castle, follow the red carpet, and battle through the crowd of adversaries to find the red emblem at the conclusion of the level (depicted in the third image).

Position yourself on the symbol to conjure the colossal bat boss into the combat zone, then vanquish it with your available armaments. Maintain a safe distance and attack it with your long-range weapons to wear down the beast. Upon its demise, the colossal bat will relinquish the Stallion Gate relic (depicted in the second image above). This artifact enables Heart Refresh and provides entrance to a fresh section of Dracula’s Castle.

Once you’ve successfully open the Stallion Gate, you can proceed to deeper levels in Castlevania. You will encounter an item resembling an ‘angel with a heart’ (first picture above), which is known as Heart Refresh. By consulting your map, you can locate the marked Heart Refreshes on the stage and collect them. They are not often dropped by tough enemies, so remember to check for leftovers after defeating bosses. Additionally, I’ve discovered Heart Refreshes by destroying chandeliers (third picture).

To play as Sonia Belmont in Vampire Survivors: Ode to Castlevania, you’ll need to gather seven specific items over several rounds or plays. Once collected, you can permanently unlock her by spending 500 coins in the character selection menu. Sonia is a delightful character to use and comes with the Sonic Whip as her standard weapon, ideal for close combat situations.
