How Honkai: Star Rail's Rappa Fits In The Current Meta

As a long-time veteran of Honkai: Star Rail, I can confidently say that Rappa has quickly become one of my favorite additions to the game. With her impressive DPS capabilities and versatile kit, she’s proven to be an invaluable asset in various scenarios.

Players finally had the chance to try out Rappa following the release of Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.6 on October 23, 2024. As anticipated, she proved to be an excellent Damage Per Second (DPS) character. With her Area of Effect (AOE) skill and blast+AOE ultimate, she’s a force to reckon with in Pure Fiction. Notably, reputable tier list creators and reviewers have consistently ranked the new Imaginary unit among Tier 1 or even Tier 0 for the current Memory of Chaos and Apocalyptic Shadow updates. Rappa seamlessly adapts to the game’s meta due to numerous factors.

In Honkai: Star Rail, Rappa’s equipment setup is straightforward yet impactful. Her primary methods for sustaining health and causing toughness damage mainly stem from her ultimate skill. Upon activating her ult, Rappa instantly gets an additional turn, during which she unleashes three empowered basic attacks. The first two attacks deal Blast damage, while the third one targets all on-field enemies and significantly diminishes their overall toughness, regardless of their element. Simultaneously, Rappa’s talent operates on a charging system that accumulates charges by exploiting enemy weaknesses. Each charge enhances the Break DMG final hit of Rappa’s empowered basic attack during her ultimate.

Why Rappa is an Excellent Fit in Honkai: Star Rail’s Current Meta

Rappa’s impressive position in tier rankings is due to several reasons. These include the present condition of the game’s endgame modes, optimal teams as dictated by the current meta, and upcoming updates that might favor her play style.

Rappa is a Perfect Fit for the Standard Break Team

In the top-tier squad for Honkai: Star Rail often features Harmony Trailblazer and Ruan Mei as supports, along with a character who boosts Break Damage like Gallagher or Lingsha. This setup is typically centered around Firefly. Interestingly, this team also works well for Rappa, as her allies’ abilities enhance her capacity to break through toughness bars and deal massive Break damage. Harmony Trailblazer stands out among these units for Rappa, since they are the only ones currently providing a Super Break boost to teammates. Additionally, it’s speculated that the upcoming character Fugue from Nihility may possess a Super Break mechanism in her abilities, making her a promising candidate to join Rappa’s squad.

Even Memory of Chaos and Apocalyptic Shadow Currently Favor Rappa

In typical scenarios with fewer enemy waves, such as Memory of Chaos and single-target bosses like Apocalyptic Shadows, learning modules often face difficulties because their powers are more potent when striking multiple enemies. Yet, this limitation doesn’t seem to affect Rappa during the current stages of MoC and AS for an unusual reason. Here’s the explanation.

  • Scalegorge Tidalflow (MoC): The current Memory Turbulence Effect for this phase gives enemies Exo-Toughness, which is an extra toughness bar that appears after their initial weakness break. Rappa can whittle down this bar to inflict massive Weakness Break damage and trigger her Imaginary break type again.
  • Sovereign Control (AS): Apocalyptic Shadow is essentially a playground of Break DPSes because it provides big rewards for breaking a boss’ toughness bar. The current effect for the latest AS patch recovers skill points, activates all ultimates, and increases the Weakness Break DMG and Follow-up DMG taken by opponents by 20% each. The ult refresh heavily favors Rappa, as she wants to be in her Sealform state as much as possible. The additional Break DMG debuff is just the icing on the “massive super break damage” cake for her.

In most cases, players primarily dedicate their Erudition units solely for Pure Fiction purposes. However, Rappa appears to be deviating from this norm, particularly in the recent updates for AS and MoC. Moreover, the introduction of Fugue in Honkai: Star Rail’s 2.7 update could significantly boost her damage output. Whether she’ll maintain her high rank as gameplay evolves when the endgame meta transitions to a damage type other than Break remains to be seen.
