How Honkai: Star Rail's New Amphoreus Characters Compare to Greek Myth

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for narrative-rich RPGs and a deep appreciation for mythology, I can hardly contain my excitement for Honkai: Star Rail’s upcoming Chapter 4, Amphoreus. The fusion of Greek gods and personalities is not only intriguing but also promises a unique gaming experience.

In Version 3.0, Honkai: Star Rail is making its journey to the fourth planet, Amphoreus, promising an exhilarating adventure for the Trailblazer. This voyage brings forth fresh missions, landscapes, foes, and abilities from the upcoming Path of Remembrance. Additionally, in keeping with HoYoverse’s style, Honkai: Star Rail has hinted at new characters set to debut over the coming months.

As a space-faring gamer, I’ve heard whispers about a planet known as Amphoreus, the Eternal Land. Legend has it that not even the legendary Aeon, Akivili the Trailblaze, has managed to set foot there. From what we’ve seen so far, the planet appears to be steeped in Greek mythology, with deity-like beings said to have shaped its very existence. The design hints dropped by Honkai: Star Rail’s Golden Epic trailer offer a tantalizing glimpse into this world’s surroundings.

Honkai: Star Rail’s Next Chapter Takes Inspiration From Greek Gods and Personalities

Among the recognized factions within Amphoreus is a group called the Chrysos Heirs, a select band of individuals foretold to gather the divine Coreflames and preserve the world. So far, 12 members of the Chrysos Heirs have been identified, yet as of now, only eight characters from this faction have been unveiled in Honkai: Star Rail. Each character serves a unique role within Amphoreus, and it’s expected that they will be playable characters in Honkai: Star Rail at some point in the future.

Known Amphoreus Characters So Far

Aglaea

Known as “The Goldweaver,” Aglaea bears the Coreflame of Romance, and is tasked to summon the heroes who will smite down the gods and revive the dying world of Amphoreus. In Greek mythology, Aglaea is one of the three Charities, representing beauty, glory, and adornment. She also became the second wife of Hephaestus, right after Aphrodite. Additionally, Aglaea is a 5-star Lightning character following the Path of Remembrance, who will make her debut in Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.0.

Tribbie

Described as having three faces, Tribbie is a messenger that travels many paths and resides with the divine ordain. It’s possible that she is a representation of Hecate, who is a Greek goddess depicted with three heads or faces and is often associated with crossroads.

Anaxa

Referred to after the ancient Greek thinker Anaxagoras, Anaxa is known as a scholar who investigates prophecies and questions the gods, mirroring Anaxagoras’ approach to scientific inquiry, which he utilized in his study of cosmology and other philosophical fields.

Hyacine

In a portrayal that suggests youthfulness, Hyacine is represented as a priestess. Her role involves mending the heavens above and restoring the enchanted land of Amphoreus. There’s a suggestion that her name might have originated from Hyacinth, a young Spartan prince known for his relationship with Apollo.

Mydei

In the trailer for the Golden Saga, the character Mydei is shown as a formidable warrior, reminiscent of Ares, the Greek deity of war. Interestingly, his name, Mydeimos, appears to be derived from Deimos, another Greek deity who was Ares’ son with Aphrodite.

Cifera

Known as “The Agile One,” Cifera exhibits feline traits and can move swiftly, making her unique among characters as she doesn’t have any direct connections to Greek mythology. Interestingly, her name originates from the word “cipher,” a form of encryption used by the ancient Greeks for safeguarding their information.

Castorice

Castorice, as the protector of the River of Spirits (Styx), is undoubtedly a top candidate for Charon, the ferryman responsible for transporting deceased souls to the Underworld. The choice of her name suggests that HoYoverse might have drawn inspiration from Castor, one of the Gemini twins.

Phainon

Referred to as the unnamed hero, Phainon bears resemblance to the Greek celestial figure and symbol of Saturn, Phaeton. Some enthusiasts have noticed a striking similarity between Phainon and Kevin Kaslana from Honkai Impact 3rd, which leads to speculation that he could be another adaptation of an existing HoYoverse character.
