How Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars Are Connected Explained By Kevin Feige

Just eight months before Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters, Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, explained how that film will lead into the 2027 movie, Avengers: Secret Wars.

In a recent interview with Fandango, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige discussed the upcoming two Avengers movies. He explained that these films will be connected differently than Infinity War and Endgame, which came out in 2018 and 2019. While there will be links between the two new storylines, fans of the comics may already have some idea of how they connect.

The head of Marvel understands many fans expect Doomsday and Secret Wars to connect like Infinity War and Endgame, but he clarified that won’t be how it works. He explained that while Doomsday will lead into Secret Wars, the connection will be quite different.

Feige also teased that Avengers: Secret Wars is “as ambitious a project as we’ve ever embarked on.”

Fans of the original comic books will find connections to the new story, but it won’t be quite the same as how ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ connected. People might be expecting a similar feel, and while there is a link, it unfolds in a very different way. We’re aiming for something truly massive with ‘Secret Wars’ – it’s one of our most ambitious projects yet.

The latest Avengers movies, Infinity War and Endgame, really functioned as one long story. The shocking moment where Thanos eliminates half of all life after gathering the Infinity Stones created a major turning point, dividing the story into two films.

Originally, Marvel planned these two movies as a single story called Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2. They later changed the name of the second part to Endgame.

According to Feige, the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars movies are connected, but he wants to assure fans that Marvel isn’t simply repeating old storylines or misleading them with hype. He emphasizes they’re aiming for something new, despite the links between the projects.

Both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame featured an enormous group of heroes – including the original Avengers, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Black Panther, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and others – all uniting to stop the villain Thanos. This was the largest team-up ever seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Avengers: Endgame made $2.8 billion in theaters, making it the second-highest-grossing movie ever, only behind Avatar.

Following those two groundbreaking movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe released several more, including Spider-Man: Far From Home, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Deadpool & Wolverine, Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Coming out on July 31st is the next installment, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Five months after the release of Tom Holland’s latest Spider-Man movie, Marvel Studios will release the next Avengers film, titled Doomsday. The movie will feature several returning actors, notably Robert Downey Jr., who will be playing the villain Doctor Doom.

Following that, Avengers: Secret Wars will come out a year after, concluding both Phase Six and the entire Multiverse Saga.

The next two major Avengers movies have release dates: Avengers: Doomsday will come out on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will follow on December 17, 2027.
