Honkai: Star Rail's Galaxy Rangers Explained

As a long-time fan of the Honkai universe, I am absolutely thrilled about the impending arrival of Rappa, the rapping ninja Galaxy Ranger, in Honkai: Star Rail! Ever since we got to know these mysterious vigilantes during the Penacony arc, I have been captivated by their enigmatic aura.

Enthusiasts of the Galaxy Ranger faction have plenty to anticipate now, as Honkai: Star Rail has hinted at the arrival of its new 5-star Imaginary-Erudition unit, Rappa, in Version 2.6. Besides being a rapper ninja, she’s also part of the Galaxy Rangers. During the Penacony arc, fans were introduced to her colleague, the cyborg cowboy Boothill, offering a glimpse into this enigmatic group. Despite appearing as a chaotic band of vigilantes, their notable accomplishments hint that there’s a deeper mystery surrounding them.

In the realm of Honkai: Star Rail, I’ve noticed that the various factions we belong to are bound by the unique paths we walk. A ‘Path,’ you see, is like a personal code or belief system that guides us, offers us wisdom, and sometimes even grants us power. The Galaxy Rangers and the Xianzhou Alliance share the Path of The Hunt, but our motivations for following it diverge greatly.

The Known Beliefs and History of Honkai: Star Rail’s Galaxy Rangers

The Galaxy Rangers are a band of proficient warriors, dedicated to upholding justice through their actions, frequently involving the pursuit and capture of violent wrongdoers. Given this, it’s logical that they revere Lan, the Aeon of The Chase. Similarly, the Xianzhou Alliance adopts this approach to eliminate the Inhabitants of Plenty. On the other hand, the Galaxy Rangers chase after villains with unwavering determination, employing whatever methods are required. Both their pursuits, in the eyes of Lan, are noble endeavors.

The Core Values of Galaxy Rangers

The Galaxy Rangers tend to think independently, leading to diverse viewpoints among them. Nevertheless, they adhere firmly to two fundamental principles.

  • Never kill the innocent
  • Never bully the weak

Galaxy Rangers seldom interact with each other, yet a fallen comrade’s demise is an exceptional event that unites them. Each Ranger possesses a relic bullet, activated when a fellow Ranger dies or requires urgent assistance, which sends out a distress signal in the form of a flare. Upon witnessing this signal and recognizing its significance, Rangers from across the cosmos will swiftly converge to assist their fellow Ranger in need. During the climactic battle against Sunday in Penacony, Boothill utilized his relic bullet’s flare function for this very purpose.

The Rise, Fall, and Resurgence of the Galaxy Rangers

The history of the Galaxy Rangers isn’t extensively documented, except for three notable instances where they faced off against the Antimatter Legion and traitorous individuals from the Genius Society.

  • Operation Zulo: The Galaxy Rangers managed to kill the powerful Lord Ravager Zulo, an emanator of destruction and a renowned leader of the Antimatter Legion. A Nameless-turned-Ranger called Tiernan helped out in this effort, which involved manipulating the deadly four-winged insect colony of The Swarm to attack Zulo’s fleet.
  • The Defeat of Gaius the Usurper: Gaius was the successor to Emperor Rubert, a sentient computer and Genius Society member. This self-imposed ruler eradicated organic civilizations in the pursuit of replacing them with his “perfect and precise” Intellitrons. Gaius was to continue his legacy until he was thwarted by the Galaxy Rangers. However, it’s unknown how they defeated Gaius.
  • Dr. Primitive’s Rebellion: Dr. Primitive, #64 of the Genius Society, planned a project that would “return the ancestors of Vonwacq,” though the possible result of this plan is still unknown. The Galaxy Rangers put a stop to his scheme, protecting Vonwacq’s ecosystem. However, Dr. Primitive somehow escaped capture and remains on the run.

After their confrontation with Dr. Primitive, the pace of activity for the Galaxy Rangers seemed to slow down. It’s been whispered that Dr. Primitive exacted his revenge by transforming some of his comrades into apes, but Boothill has refuted this allegation. Moreover, numerous rangers heeded his call during the Penacony arc.

Boothill’s Revenge Against the IPC

At the moment, Boothill is carrying out his vengeful scheme against Oswaldo Schneider, a high-ranking marketing executive at IPC, who may have played a role in the destruction of his tribe. This cyborg cowboy has caused chaos within IPC’s operations at Pier Point as he tracks down Schneider, which has resulted in the corporation also targeting him. In Penacony, Boothill crossed paths with IPC executive Aventurine, seeking a path to reach Oswaldo. Despite their independent natures, the Galaxy Rangers tend to achieve their greatest success when working together. So, it would be intriguing to see Rappa or their leader La Mancha involved in Boothill’s revenge plot.
