Honkai: Star Rail Shouldn't Put Its Most Popular Character on the Shelf

As a devoted Honkai: Star Rail player with years of combat under my belt, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia when I think about Seele, the game’s very first 5-star character and a fan favorite. It’s been over a year since her last rerun, and as someone who’s always had her in my team, I can’t help but wonder where she’s been hiding.

In every update, many enthusiasts of Honkai: Star Rail eagerly anticipate the 5-star rerun banners, much like they do with new characters. This is particularly thrilling for those who are either keen on acquiring specific characters for the first time or aiming to boost the Eidolon levels of their current units. However, due to the expanding roster of Honkai: Star Rail, some previously released 5-star characters may not make a comeback immediately.

A standout five-star character who hasn’t appeared on a rerun banner for some time is Seele. This Quantum-type Hunt character was Honkai: Star Rail’s initial five-star character and also the highest-grossing, as reported by HonkaiLab. Interestingly, Seele was the first to undergo a rerun, which took place in Version 1.4, and it has now been a year since that banner concluded.

Honkai: Star Rail is Due For Another Seele Rerun

Honkai: Star Rail Shouldn't Put Its Most Popular Character on the Shelf

  • Seele’s rerun banner in Version 1.4: Started on October 27, 2023, and ended on November 14, 2023

For over a year now, the popular game Honkai: Star Rail has seen many players focusing on team compositions featuring Seele due to her powerful offensive and follow-up attacks. Particularly effective in all-Quantum teams, which were dominant in several Memory of Chaos rounds, Seele is highly sought after for her DPS capabilities. Consequently, fans eagerly anticipated her rerun, aiming to boost their current Seeles and add a strong DPS member to their teams. Up until now, they continue to hope that Seele will have another chance to be pulled, but Honkai: Star Rail has yet to announce it.

It’s quite unexpected that Seele has only had one re-release in Honkai: Star Rail given she’s been the top-earning 5-star character for over a year. This could be due to players eagerly spending when the game launched, allowing them to obtain the limited 5-star unit immediately, and even Seele’s previous rerun was successful. Since then, no other character has managed to match her earnings. If HoYoverse were to re-release her again, it could potentially generate more income.

The earnings graph for HonkaiLab pertains exclusively to the Chinese iOS market, yet it remains a trustworthy source given that China boasts one of the largest player bases for HoYoverse.

Lately, the rerun events in Honkai: Star Rail have introduced more recent characters like Acheron and Aventurine. Conversely, established characters from Honkai: Star Rail such as Kafka and rumored to be Jing Yuan have had multiple reruns. Given this pattern, it’s reasonable to anticipate that Seele will soon make a comeback for another run. Furthermore, considering the sequence of past banners, it seems Honkai: Star Rail is simply biding its time to introduce Seele along with a new support character or another damage dealer who works well with her.

Stronger DPS Characters and Powercreep in Honkai: Star Rail May Explain Seele’s Absence

In the game Honkai: Star Rail, characters like Firefly and Feixiao have been introduced as high-damage per second (DPS) units, outperforming Seele in many battles. Due to the Break Effect meta in the main game, Memory of Chaos, and other combat missions, it’s less common to find Seele on teams these days. However, she remains effective against enemies with Quantum weaknesses. Some players may notice a trend of powercreep impacting her usage rate in the game.

It’s possible that Honkai: Star Rail is delaying another Seele rerun because they want to introduce new opportunities for other 5-star characters. On one hand, this could mean less focus on Seele, their most popular 5-star unit, which some players might see as neglect. However, on the positive side, this allows lesser-used 5-star characters to step into the spotlight in upcoming updates, potentially leading to the discovery of fresh and exciting team combinations for players to enjoy.
