Kojima Productions recently gave fans a new preview of OD, their next horror game coming to Xbox. Director Hideo Kojima is dedicated to making the game truly frightening, and reportedly even attempted to scan an actual ghost to use in it.
As a huge Kojima fan, I was so excited to hear him talk about his next game, OD! He said at the Beyond the Strand event that he wants the game to take us all over the world to really creepy, unsettling locations. And get this – he wants us to be the first to *scan* a ghost in the game, and even win an award for it! It sounds absolutely wild and I can’t wait to see what he creates.
Kojima, with the help of a translator, shared a story about a possible ghost detected in one of the rooms they scanned for the game. He jokingly suggested that the strange cracking noises heard later in the studio building might have been the ghost following them.
Kojima explained that while the initial problem, which he referred to as a ‘ghost,’ may have been resolved, they still visited a shrine with Microsoft to ensure the game’s development was stable.
I was so excited to see that the strange cracking sounds Kojima talked about actually made it into the OD preview! It featured Sophia Lillis’ character in this really unsettling building, and she kept seeing disturbing images. Then, this ghostly figure just appears behind her and grabs her – it was seriously creepy! Plus, the trailer threw in some hints about the story, but they cleverly hid parts of the text on screen, making you really try to figure things out.
Udo Kier and Hunter Schafer will join Lillis as main cast members in the game. Kojima Productions also announced that the game is built using the Unreal Engine. Meanwhile, TopMob has collected some of the best in-game screenshots into a gallery.
Okay, so the new game, OD, doesn’t have a firm release date yet, but I know it’s coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC. As for PlayStation 5? Still no news on that, unfortunately. I’m hoping they’ll announce something for PS5 soon, but for now, it’s just Xbox and PC.
