A popular film directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Jason Statham will soon be available to watch for free online.
Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham first gained recognition with the 1998 crime comedy Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and followed it up with the 2000 hit Snatch. These films helped launch both of their careers. Since then, they’ve both worked on numerous projects separately – Ritchie directing films like The Gentlemen, Sherlock Holmes, and the 2019 Aladdin, and Statham becoming a star in action franchises such as The Meg, Crank, and Fast and Furious. However, they’ve also collaborated on several films throughout the years.
| Guy Ritchie & Jason Statham Collaborations | |
|---|---|
| Title | Year |
| Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels | 1998 |
| Snatch | 2000 |
| Revolver | 2005 |
| Wrath of Man | 2021 |
| Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre | 2023 |
Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie have become known for their action films, and their 2021 movie, Wrath of Man, is coming to free streaming next month. Statham plays a security guard with a mysterious background who proves valuable to a team of criminals. The film also stars Josh Hartnett, Laz Alonso, Scott Eastwood, Raúl Castillo, Jeffrey Donovan, DeObia Oparei, and Eddie Marsan. While critics generally favor their earlier work like Lock, Stock (75%) and Snatch (74%), Wrath of Man (68%) is their highest-rated action movie in recent years.
Starting May 1st, you’ll be able to watch Wrath of Man on Tubi, the free streaming service with ads. Before this, it was only available on Prime Video with a subscription. Tubi is also adding the heist film The Bank Job on the same day. Wrath of Man joins a growing collection of Jason Statham movies already on Tubi, including Blitz, Chaos, 13, Killer Elite, In the Name of the King, and Ghosts of Mars directed by John Carpenter.
Now that Wrath of Man is available on streaming, more people might discover the film. While it earned $104 million globally in 2021, its box office performance was only moderate. Considering the film cost around $40 million to make, it needed to earn about $100 million to be considered profitable, and it just barely reached that goal.
Following the disappointing performance of their previous film, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre—which earned $49 million despite costing $50 million to make—it’s unclear if Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie’s collaborations are losing momentum. The success of their next project, Viva La Madness, an adaptation of J.J. Connelly’s work, will likely determine this. Statham will star as the enigmatic drug dealer X, alongside Vinnie Jones, Jason Isaacs, Camila Mendes, Jonny Lee Miller, Raúl Alejandro, Babs Olusanmokun, and Ben Foster.
With more people able to watch Wrath of Man, the film could become a bigger hit, sparking greater interest in director Guy Ritchie and actor Jason Statham. This increased visibility could also help ensure that Ritchie’s next film, Viva La Madness, doesn’t struggle at the box office.
