G-Mode announced that Bandai Namco is the latest addition to the G-Mode Archives, bringing classic Japanese mobile games to Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam. The first games being released as part of this partnership are Xenosaga: Pied Piper and Namco Chronicle.
Xenosaga: Pied Piper was originally released on Vodafone flip phones in July 2004. It later became available on the i-mode platform in July 2006. The game’s story is set 100 years before the events of Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht, and features Ziggy as a human character named Jan Sauer.

Xenosaga: Pied Piper:
Traditional JRPG with turn-based battles.
Gameplay follows a similar system to the mainline Xenosaga games, but adapted for mobile devices.
The game uses a 2D viewpoint from above, telling its story through character conversations and dramatic cutscenes.
Battles take place in a virtual space tied to the story.
The storyline was written by series creators Tetsuya Takahashi and Soraya Saga.
A port of a Japanese flip phone title (feature phones popular before smartphones).
As a fan of the original, I’m glad this new version stays true to it! They didn’t add things like extra languages or achievements that weren’t there before, which I really appreciate. It’s nice they’re keeping the core experience intact.
Series Overview
This is a mobile version of the popular JRPG, Xenosaga, first launched in 2006 for older feature phones.
This game is a spin-off connected to both the Xenosaga trilogy and the larger Xeno series. It tells the story of Ziggy, a cyborg who plays a crucial role in Xenosaga, but focuses on his life a hundred years before the beginning of Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht.
Game Story
This new story focuses on Ziggy, a cyborg character who was previously featured in the main narrative.
This story takes place a century before the current events, revealing the protagonist’s past as a human member of the Federal Police. Back then, he operated under the name Jan Sauer, working in counterterrorism.
Will Jan and his team in special investigations be able to catch the dangerous killer known as Voyager before more people get hurt?
Namco Chronicle, the second game announced, was originally released in 2009. It’s a strategy role-playing game where characters from several classic Namco franchises—including The Adventure of Valkyrie, The Tower of Druaga, and Wonder Momo—all appear together.

Track down the evil force that stole the legendary treasure, Wonder Eggs!
Team up with namco characters and restore peace to the game world!
NAMCO CHRONICLE:
An SRPG featuring Namco’s retro characters.
Characters from multiple game titles appear together.
Gorgeous skill animations and dramatic cut-ins.
Coordinated combo scenes between characters.
A crossover spanning more than 20 characters.
A port of a Japanese flip phone title (feature phones popular before smartphones).
This update doesn’t include features like new languages or achievements that weren’t in the first release of the game.
Game Overview
This brand new tactical RPG is designed specifically for mobile and brings together beloved characters from classic Namco games.
Game Story
The game is divided into three sections—Fantasy, City, and Space—and you’ll meet new companions to join you in each one.
The characters who come to your aid change depending on the world you explore.
Okay, so between the really cool strategy parts, the game throws you into these awesome adventure sections where the story really comes alive. It’s amazing seeing all the classic Namco characters interact – those moments are definitely highlights for me!
The game features appearances from well-known characters like Valkyrie from The Adventure of Valkyrie, Gil and Ki from The Tower of Druaga, and Momo from Wonder Momo.
Who else will join the adventure? The rest you will have to discover for yourself.
G-Mode has launched Steam pages for the upcoming releases of Xenosaga: Pied Piper and Namco Chronicle, known as G-Mode Archives. Release dates for both games on Switch and Steam haven’t been announced yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as they are available.
