Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is generating Oscar buzz for his performance in *The Smashing Machine*. The film, which tells the story of mixed martial arts and UFC champion Mark Kerr, received a remarkable 15-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival and has quickly gained international attention.
Even though his movie *The Smashing Machine* just came out, Dwayne Johnson is already preparing for another role that will require a major transformation. Benny Safdie, the director of *The Smashing Machine*, has offered Johnson a part in his next film, *Lizard Music*. This new movie is based on a novel by Daniel Pinkwater about a man in his seventies whose best friend is a seventy-year-old chicken.
Dwayne Johnson revealed at the Toronto Film Festival that he’s been losing weight for his upcoming role. He’ll be playing ‘Chicken Man,’ a quirky and playful character in his 70s.
After Benny finished presenting his idea, about 45 minutes later, I told him I was on board and ready to help – I declared myself his ‘Chicken Man’.
Johnson has already lost 30 pounds of muscle, but he feels he still needs to lose more. His role in *Lizard Music* gives him another chance, following his work in *The Smashing Machine*, to completely change his appearance and become fully absorbed in a character.
I’m really hoping to make a similar transformation to the one I achieved in ‘Smashing Machine,’ which basically means eating less chicken.
After gaining attention for his work in The Smashing Machine, Johnson is becoming a notable actor. His upcoming, demanding role is expected to draw a lot of interest, and audiences can currently see his portrayal of Mark Kerr in theaters.
