Okay, so this is a crazy story I just read. Apparently, a family in South Africa actually brought their deceased relative to a bank! They were trying to prove he was, well, no longer with us, so they could sort out some stuff. Can you believe it? It sounds like total chaos at the bank, honestly. I mean, bringing a body to a bank? That’s a new one!
Dealing with a loved one’s belongings after they pass away often involves tasks like canceling phone plans, closing bank accounts, and ending subscriptions. It can be frustrating because companies typically require proof of death before they’ll take action.
Generally, you can close accounts by providing a death certificate, but some institutions may require additional documentation.
A family in KwaDukuza, South Africa, actually brought their deceased relative’s body to the bank when asked for proof of death.
Family take dead body as proof for bank
The Post reports that a family attempting to file a claim on a life insurance policy brought their deceased relative’s body with them into a bank.
After learning about the body, Nikesh Hooblall, owner of Taurus Medical and Security, described arriving to a chaotic scene. He said the family was outside speaking with authorities, and security had blocked off the bank.
Police found the body inside the bank, placed in a body bag on the floor. It appears the death was related to a disagreement about a funeral insurance plan.
According to a report from The Post, bringing the body to the location created significant disruption, and the branch had to temporarily close.
I saw some people online calling the family’s decision really smart, saying it completely shut down any questions about whether the person had actually passed away. One person even joked that it was the ultimate way to confirm it! It’s just… a really definitive way to handle things, I guess.
People noted that this isn’t the first time something like this has happened at banks in KwaDukuza, and some mentioned it’s even occurred at this particular branch before. One person commented, “This is the second time this has happened here.”
