My personal journey in this field has been marked by countless alphanumeric wallet addresses that often left me scratching my head, so the ease of converting these into human-readable names with ENS is a welcome development.


Google has now included the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) in its search functionality. This means that users can look up any .eth domain, and the associated Ethereum (ETH) balance will be displayed right in the search results.

As a crypto investor, I’m thrilled about this advancement that brings us one step closer to making digital currency data easily understandable for everyone, not just the tech-savvy.

ENS Support and Features

Google now supports Ethereum Name Service (ENS), enabling users to look up any .eth name and view related balances straight from Google Search, as announced by the ENS.ETH team in a recent post on October 9.

The team pointed out that although the new feature was first introduced to some users several months back, it is now accessible to all users worldwide.

Nalin, an official from Google’s Web3 division, announced that Ethereum’s test networks, Sepolia and Holesky, now support ENS (Ethereum Name Service). This means users can now easily get test Ether (“drips”) by simply entering their .eth address.

Simultaneously, the naming service recently formed a collaboration with domain registrar GoDaddy in February. This partnership enables the Web3 community to associate their .eth names with traditional Web2 domains at no extra charge. This reduces the financial barrier posed by high gas fees that had previously discouraged some users from utilizing this service.

The ENS (Ethereum Name Service) system works similarly to internet domain names. It enables users to transform complex Ethereum wallet addresses into easily recognizable, readable names instead.

Instead of using lengthy sequences of letters and numbers as a digital wallet address, users could opt for a more convenient alternative such as “yourname.eth”, which functions as a friendly alias for the actual address.

Google’s Continued Support for Crypto

In May 2023, Google initiated the incorporation of Ethereum addresses into its system. This tech titan unveiled a novel functionality enabling users to search for these addresses, with the added benefit of viewing the associated Ether (ETH) balances right within their search results.

By March 2024, Google enhanced its built-in cryptocurrency support, incorporating ENS (Ethereum Name Service) domains. This upgrade enables users to perform web searches using addresses like Vitalik.eth, providing blockchain data such as the ETH balance, wallet address, and recent transactions from Etherscan.

The integration of ENS (Ethereum Name Service) expands upon earlier efforts within the cryptocurrency sector. In 2022, the company rolled out functionalities that enable Ethereum wallet owners to instantly check their Ether holdings straight from search results. This update eliminated the requirement to access blockchain explorers like Etherscan directly.

Additionally, they celebrated the Ethereum Merge by using animated pandas to countdown the transition of the blockchain from a proof-of-work system to a proof-of-stake one.

In 2023, the platform revised its policy on crypto advertising, incorporating “Cryptocurrency Coin Trusts.” This modification allowed investment products like Bitcoin ETFs, offered by prominent financial entities such as BlackRock, to show up when users searched for related topics.
