As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent traversing various virtual worlds, I must admit that Honkai Star Rail has left me somewhat puzzled when it comes to multiplayer interaction. Having grown accustomed to the seamless co-op experience offered by Genshin Impact, I was taken aback by Honkai’s unique approach to multiplayer features.
In the grand space odyssey of HoYoverse’s sci-fi saga, Honkai Star Rail, a solitary voyage among the stars might initially seem inevitable. However, you won’t be alone as vibrant characters will join you on your interstellar quest. As for interaction with real players, Honkai takes a unique route compared to Genshin Impact, but it certainly doesn’t shun social interactions entirely. Here’s what you should know about multiplayer co-op in Honkai Star Rail.
Playing with Friends in Honkai Star Rail
(Updated on August 23, 2024 – updated explanation, links, images, and format)
In Honkai Star Rail, although you can connect with other players by adding friends, there isn’t an active cooperative mode available in the game, which might be disappointing compared to Genshin’s co-op play. However, Honkai Star Rail is forging its unique path, as demonstrated by its numerous Trailblazers. Despite this, you can engage in some limited multiplayer aspects, though they may not function exactly as you might expect. This is due to the game’s Support Character system, rather than a traditional co-op multiplayer feature. Here’s what that means: you can utilize other players’ characters to assist your own gameplay.
- Designate a character as a Support to help your friends on their missions
- Bring a friend’s Support Character along to help you
- Diversify your team composition (but no to having two of the same character)
In Calyxes and Caverns of Corrosion, you can include Support Characters in your team, but remember, a highly overpowered Support won’t carry you through the game. The game scales the level of incoming Support Characters according to the level of your own characters. It seems like there won’t be any free level-ups today. However, even if you don’t have friends playing the game, you can still utilize the Support Character feature by pulling from a random pool of players instead. This pool refreshes if none of the available characters appeal to you. Additionally, this system rewards you with Credits, demonstrating that while crime may not be profitable, friendship certainly is.
