Eight founding members have started what they call the Decentralized AI Society (DAIS) to fight the possibility of tech giants holding an AI monopoly. The chairman of DAIS is Michael Casey who was formerly CoinDesk’s chief content officer
As a seasoned researcher with years of experience in the tech and blockchain industry, I find myself deeply intrigued by the formation of the Decentralized AI Society (DAIS). Having closely followed Michael Casey’s career trajectory from CoinDesk’s chief content officer to the chair of Consensus, I can say that his leadership in this new venture is nothing short of inspiring.SINGAPORE – Key figures within various industries have established a not-for-profit entity known as the Decentralized Artificial Intelligence Community (DAIC). This organization aims to address concerns about the potential concentration of power in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector.

Michael Casey serves as the leader of the team. Prior to this role, he held positions as Chief Content Officer at CoinDesk and Chair of their annual cryptocurrency conference, Consensus.

In the conversation with CoinDesk during the Token2049 blockchain conference in Singapore, Casey pointed out that the AI society operating without a central authority recognizes the significant advantage held by centralized platforms in the era of AI. These centralized platforms have control over all the data, computational resources, and, to some extent, regulatory bodies.
Among the initial group that established DAIS are CETI AI, Filecoin Foundation, Bloq, Hypercycle, Morpheus, Hemi, Odyssey, and Lumerin.
According to the new organization, DAIS aims to tackle four problems:
Bringing capital to the decentralized AI world in what has already become an arms race for resources like graphical processing units (GPUs) and the data centers that compute together.Shaping policy to craft AI regulations.Education and promotion of decentralized AI. Engineering to create new algorithms for learning models in a distributed way.
Casey stated, “It seems our only option is to advocate for a decentralized approach to AI, considering the dominance of tech titans such as OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and Apple.

He stated, “I don’t believe it’s impossible; someone needs to tackle the problem instead.
