Director Andy Muschietti has commented on the many fan suggestions for who should play Batman in the upcoming DCU film, The Brave and the Bold, which will be the first time the character appears in the newly rebooted DC Universe under James Gunn’s leadership. As of now, there’s no news about when the movie will be released.
Andy and Barbara Muschietti talk about DCU Batman fan castings
Andy Muschietti, the director of The Flash, recently discussed fan choices for who should play Batman in the upcoming film, The Brave and the Bold. He and his sister spoke with Cinemablend about their thoughts on the matter.
So, I’m really excited about Muschietti directing ‘The Brave and the Bold’ as part of James Gunn’s new DCU. A reporter asked him if he checks out all the fan casting online, and he admitted he definitely does – he said he’s ‘curious,’ and even acknowledged he’s ‘keeping an eye on it.’ As a movie buff, I totally get that! It’s fun to see what fans want, and directors are smart to at least be aware of it.
You know, Barbara was talking about how much she cares for everyone involved – the team and the viewers – but she really emphasized that, ultimately, choosing the actors is her job. It’s about having that creative control, and she feels strongly about that.
Ever since “The Brave and the Bold” was announced, fans have been suggesting many actors for the role of Bruce Wayne. Some of the most popular choices include Brandon Sklenar, Alan Ritchson, Jonathan Bailey, Jensen Ackles, and Paul Anthony Kelly, known for his work in “Love Story.”
James Gunn mentioned in September 2025 that he was discussing the possibility of casting someone as Batman. In an interview with The Ringer-Verse, he confirmed he had several actors in mind, similar to how he approached casting Superman. He even revealed that a well-known actor had expressed interest in the role, though Gunn wasn’t sure if it would work out.
