DC Studios Unveils First Look at Brainiac’s Kandor City Ahead of Superman 2: Man of Tomorrow Debut

With production soon beginning on the upcoming DC Universe film featuring Superman (David Corenswet) and Brainiac (Lars Eidinger), a special preview has offered fans a look at the iconic city of Kandor.

Warner Bros. has launched a new attraction at its Hollywood studio tour called Superman Experience: Defenders Unite. Visitors can join Superman, Supergirl, and Krypto in a battle against Darkseid from the DC Universe. The experience also features props from Superman movies, including a full-size animatronic Robot #4 and the famous Bottle City of Kandor, as reported by DCU Brief.

Fans of DC Comics know the story of Kandor, the city of Krypton shrunk and saved by the villain Brainiac right before Krypton was destroyed. In some versions of the story, Brainiac is even responsible for destroying the planet itself.

Whenever Superman rescues the miniature city of Kandor from the villain Brainiac, he keeps it safe at the Fortress of Solitude while he figures out how to return it and its people to their original size. Once restored, this new society often settles under a red sun and becomes known as New Krypton.

With James Gunn introducing actor Lars Eidinger as a key villain in the upcoming Superman movie, fans have spotted a familiar sight: a version of Kandor, Superman’s lost city, appearing in the Superman Experience exhibit.

Since the objects and environments in the interactive experience strongly resemble those from Superman and the DC Universe, it’s becoming more and more probable that the city of Kandor will play a role in the story of Brainiac and create conflict for the heroes in Man of Tomorrow.

The first trailer for Supergirl showed the destruction of Krypton, with Argo City protected by a bubble while the rest of the planet was destroyed. It’s still unclear what happened to Kandor.

The FX series Krypton took place 200 years before Superman was born and his planet was destroyed, and was largely set in the city of Kandor. The show portrayed Kandor as a society sharply divided by class, with those considered ‘Rankless’ living in poverty and the wealthy ‘Gilded’ enjoying a luxurious, elevated lifestyle.

In the story of Krypton, the villain Brainiac, also called the Collector of Worlds, went back in time with the goal of destroying Krypton before Superman could be born. He specifically targeted and preserved Kandor City as a sort of trophy.

James Gunn is set to begin filming Superman very soon in Atlanta, with the movie scheduled to come out on July 9, 2027. In addition to David Corenswet as Superman and Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor, joining a cast of well-known heroes and villains within James Gunn’s DC Universe for the Superman sequel.
