Daveigh Chase, Voice of Lilo and Chihiro, Dies at 35

Daveigh Chase, known for voicing Lilo in Lilo & Stitch and playing Samara in Gore Verbinski’s The Ring, has passed away at the age of 35. According to her boyfriend, who told TMZ, the cause of death was meningitis and a blood infection.

Daveigh Chase was born in Las Vegas in 1990 and first gained recognition playing Lilo in the popular Disney movie, continuing the role in subsequent films and the Lilo & Stitch TV series. She also voiced Chihiro in the critically acclaimed animated film Spirited Away, which won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2003 and even inspired a song by Billie Eilish more than two decades later.

Daveigh Chase is best known for playing Samara in the 2002 remake of The Ring, the creepy child who haunts the well. She won the MTV Movie Award for Best Villain in 2003, sharing the honor with the stunt performer and contortionist who also helped create the character. Chase also appeared in the TV series Big Love as Rhonda and played Samantha Darko in Donnie Darko, reprising the role in the 2009 sequel, S. Darko. Her final acting job was providing a voice for a free-to-play video game in 2016.
