Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer #2 Breakdown: 10 Biggest Moments & Reveals

The second trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now available, offering fresh glimpses and details that are building excitement among Marvel Cinematic Universe fans for the movie’s release.

After the difficult events at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has been working solo, as the world no longer remembers him. While trying to keep New York City safe, Spider-Man encounters a new and dangerous threat. At the same time, he’s dealing with big personal changes, including developing new powers that are hard to manage.

Unlike the epic, reality-bending adventure of No Way Home, the upcoming Brand New Day looks to be a more down-to-earth and personal story focused on Spider-Man’s life at street level – though it will still feature high stakes. Here are ten of the most important moments and reveals from the second trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The Spider Overtaking The Man

The initial trailer for Brand New Day suggested Peter Parker’s mutant abilities were changing quickly, but recent clips now show him battling to stay in command as he experiences disturbing urges.

The latest trailer reveals Spider-Man is struggling with his powers and feeling overwhelmed, admitting he’s “losing his mind” and is “out of control.” We see this play out visually as he powerfully throws Scorpion around, his eyes turning completely black. This strongly suggests a connection to the “The Other” storyline from the comics, where Peter Parker gained incredible new abilities but also darker, more primal instincts after being reborn from a web-like cocoon.

Scorpion Returns

It’s been almost ten years since we last saw him in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but Michael Mando is back as Mac Gargan, a.k.a. Scorpion! The latest trailer gives fans a much better look at his updated green armor and dangerous mechanical tail, and shows a significant battle brewing between Scorpion and Peter Parker. While he might not get his revenge on Spider-Man for his imprisonment, seeing Scorpion try to get payback in the new MCU film promises to be exciting.

Organic Webs Confirmed

The initial trailer suggested Spider-Man might develop natural webs, and the newest trailer confirms this. It clearly shows Peter Parker’s mechanical web-shooters being pushed off his wrists by newly formed organic webs. Although Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has always relied on mechanical devices since first appearing in Captain America: Civil War, it looks like his changing body is now making those unnecessary – and bringing him closer to the version of Spider-Man played by Tobey Maguire.

“A Threat We Can’t Even See”

The latest trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day strongly suggests, as many fans predicted, that the mysterious hooded figure with mind control powers is played by Sadie Sink.

Tramell Tillman plays William “Bill” Metzger, a key figure in the Department of Damage Control. In the original comics, Metzger was known as an anti-mutant activist who headed the Anti-Mutant Militia. He warns Spider-Man that New York faces a new danger they’re helpless against – something even invisible to most people. Importantly, he tells Spider-Man that he’s uniquely immune to this threat and the only one capable of detecting it.

Given everything we know, it seems very likely Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey, a theory fans have had since she was first cast. If so, despite appearing as a villain in the trailers, her character might not actually be evil.

First Appeared 2016 – Ned’s Notes

At a party thrown by Ned Leeds and MJ, Peter spots Ned’s notes and a board covered in clues as he tries to discover who Spider-Man really is. The notes reveal that Spider-Man was first seen publicly in 2016 – the same year he made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Captain America: Civil War.

An Explanation For Savage Hulk’s Return?

The latest trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day reveals Bruce Banner’s transformation into the Hulk for the first time. The footage shows Banner becoming the original, more aggressive “Savage Hulk” form—a change from the smarter, combined “Smart Hulk” we’ve seen in movies like Avengers: Endgame.

The trailer quickly switches between scenes of Hulk transforming and preparing to fight Spider-Man, and a shadowy figure played by Sadie Sink. This suggests she might be controlling him. Although it hasn’t been officially stated, this mind control could explain why we’re seeing the more aggressive, classic version of the Hulk that fans have been hoping for.

An Official Team-Up With The Punisher

The initial trailer showed that Spider-Man knows of, and will encounter, The Punisher (Frank Castle). They’ll end up pursuing the same armored vehicle as it speeds through New York City.

The latest trailer for Brand New Day reveals a bigger partnership between Spider-Man and the Punisher. Desperate to keep MJ safe and with few allies left he can trust, Spider-Man directly asks Frank Castle for help. It appears the Punisher is his only option. Fans have been hoping to see Spider-Man and the Punisher team up for years, and this collaboration is one of the most anticipated parts of the upcoming Marvel movie.

Words of Wisdom From Aunt May

The trailer’s most powerful scene appears towards the end, featuring new dialogue from Marisa Tomei, who plays Aunt May.

Things can definitely feel overwhelming sometimes, but I always try to remember that my loved ones care about me, not some idea of what I should be. It’s a good reminder – even if things go well and I achieve something great, I need to stay true to myself. That’s what really matters.

We then see Peter visiting Aunt May’s grave, deeply saddened by her loss. She was his main source of support and guidance, and her death in No Way Home – caused by the Green Goblin, played by Willem Dafoe – was a major blow to him.

Spider-Man vs The Hand Looks Incredible

A standout moment from the second trailer for Brand New Day is an action-packed sequence featuring Spider-Man. Similar to a scene from the first trailer where he destroys a sword with his webs, this new clip shows Spider-Man swinging from the ceiling into a group of ninjas. He unleashes a huge blast of webbing just before landing.

Honestly, this new scene is already one of my favorite Spider-Man moments in the entire MCU! It’s got me so hyped to see what happens next in Brand New Day. I can’t wait!

Spider-Man vs Hulk At The DODC?

The newest trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day ends with Spider-Man leaping from a tall, gray building, followed closely by the Hulk – who is tangled in webs and attached to pieces of the building. Evidence from a recently released LEGO set called “Spider-Man vs. Hulk Epic Clash” suggests this building is part of the DODC. The LEGO set includes references to the organization and even features a breakable building, mirroring the trailer’s scene.

If this location is Damage Control’s base, it strongly hints that they’ll be important throughout the movie. Either way, the trailer ending with Spider-Man flying through the air while an angry Hulk chases him is a fantastic way to build excitement.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases in theaters July 31st from Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios.
