Following the news that Taylor Frankie Paul won’t face domestic assault charges, her ex-boyfriend and son’s father, Dakota Mortensen, has spoken out. In an Instagram post, he shared that he’s been taking time to disconnect from the drama. He says this break has been refreshing and helped him realize his priority is creating a stable and healthy life for their son. He wishes he’d removed himself from the situation sooner.
He stated he disagrees with the way this situation has been presented to the public, explaining it doesn’t fully capture what happened or how it affected him and his son. Right now, his main focus is being the best possible father to his son, Ever.
Paul is currently sharing her experiences with mental health, revealing she was diagnosed with PTSD about two years ago, which therapists now believe is complex PTSD. Despite this and the recent public attention surrounding her relationship, she’s focusing on healing. She acknowledges that the process won’t be easy, saying, “Here come the ugly parts of what healing actually looks like.” Paul is open about her flaws and faults, seeing them as part of the journey. She feels the intense public scrutiny she’s faced – twice now, and on a larger scale each time – has come at the cost of her personal freedom, and is something she wouldn’t want anyone to go through.
In 2023, Paul initially admitted to assaulting Mortensen, and the incident was reported by SLOMW. This March, police revealed that both Paul and Mortensen had made new accusations against each other. A video from 2023, filmed by Mortensen, surfaced online showing Paul throwing chairs while her child was present. Although police investigated, they didn’t file domestic assault charges against Paul, citing that some claims were too old to prosecute. As a result, both of their television appearances were canceled: Paul was set to star as the next Bachelorette, but ABC abandoned that season, and Mortensen is being removed from season three of Vanderpump Villa. Despite this, the public remains highly interested in the situation.
