• Crypto advocate, lawyer and author of “CryptoDad: The Fight for the Future of Money” J. Christopher Giancarlo will help direct the stablecoin issuer Paxos.
  • The former head of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission has been a longtime advocate of crypto, which was one of the reasons behind his French knighthood.

As a crypto investor with a background in law and a strong interest in the regulatory landscape of digital assets, I’m thrilled about J. Christopher Giancarlo joining Paxos’ board of directors. His extensive experience as the former chairman of the CFTC and his advocacy for crypto make him an invaluable addition to the team.

Paxos announced the appointment of J. Christopher Giancarlo, a vocal supporter of cryptocurrencies and former head of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), to its board of directors, according to CoinDesk.

Giancarlo has recently joined Paxos as they broaden their offerings as a stablecoin issuer and infrastructure provider. Notably, they have introduced PayPal’s stablecoin (PYUSD), in addition to extending their reach beyond Ethereum by integrating the Solana blockchain last year. Regarding regulatory matters, the Paxos Trust is supervised by the New York Department of Financial Services. Last year, this oversight body raised concerns over potential vulnerabilities related to Binance USD (BUSD), leading to a termination of their partnership.

Giancarlo, a new addition to the board alongside another Washington veteran, ex-Senator Bill Bradley, penned the book “CryptoDad: The Battle for the Future of Money” and initiated the Digital Dollar Project to investigate the prospect of introducing a U.S. central bank digital currency (CBDC).

Charles Cascarilla, the CEO and co-founder of Paxos, has been a pioneer in promoting the use of blockchain to enhance our financial system’s infrastructure. His expertise will be invaluable as we continue to establish ourselves as trailblazers in the regulated digital asset market and innovative stablecoin sector.

Giancarlo holds the position of lawyer at Willkie Farr & Gallagher and serves as co-chair of its digital works practice. His expertise in crypto was recognized when he was bestowed the title of chevalier by France in 2022. The French ambassador to the U.S. highlighted his proficiency in financial markets and the possibilities of cryptocurrency finance during the knighting ceremony.

In a statement, Giancarlo expressed his excitement about joining Paxos’s esteemed board, as the company has emerged as a pioneer in connecting the conventional and digital asset markets through secure, regulatory-compliant offerings that cater to both institutions and individual consumers.
