Consensys Helps Decentralize Hollywood With Film.io and VillageDAO Partnership

This collaboration is set to revolutionize the film industry by bringing filmmakers and fans closer to the creative process through blockchain-based communities.

Ethereum development company Consensys has revealed that Film.io, a start-up which employs cryptocurrency to democratize the Hollywood film industry, will be the inaugural collaborator to join VillageDAO. Launched by ConsenSys in 2022, VillageDAO is a smart contract infrastructure and support platform designed for Web3 communities.

According to Bryan Hertz, co-creator of Film.io, there’s a compelling case for a certain level of decentralization in the Hollywood studio system. Instead of having a clear goal, this complex web of gatekeeping intermediaries has resulted in an environment where storytelling and creativity are often suppressed.

“In an interview, Hertz described Film.io as a decentralized platform where filmmakers have the freedom to manage their film projects independently. They can obtain funding, distribution, and community support for refining their ideas or even creating assets such as posters through this decentralized system.”

According to Hertz’s viewpoint at Film.io, film projects can have budgets ranging between 0.5 million and 30 million dollars or more. He anticipates this range to expand as additional studios join the platform.

Back in 2022, VillageDAO was nurtured under the Consensys umbrella. Now aiming for independence, VillageDAO can provide Film.io with a more effectively managed platform compared to Discord, according to Dror Avieli, Consensys’ managing director.

In an interview, Avieli expressed that Discord is effective to some extent, but it can rapidly devolve into a lawless landscape filled with various conducts and disorder. We aim to establish a superior setting through advanced technology, well-structured processes, adequate financing, and most importantly, improved community administration and assistance.
