I just stumbled across this incredibly sweet story online! There’s a baby hippo named Bumpy whose mom sadly passed away. Now, the amazing people at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust are taking care of him, and honestly, it’s the cutest thing ever. Everyone’s falling in love with this little guy!
On May 2, 2026, a baby hippo nicknamed Bumpy was found at the Oloiden Resort near Naivasha in south-central Kenya. Wildlife authorities were called about an orphaned hippo and discovered the body of Bumpy’s mother nearby.
According to the Trust’s website, the baby seal, named Bumpy, seemed confused and distressed when he was rescued. He was repeatedly calling for his mother and gently pushing at her with his nose, clearly hoping she would react.

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust thinks the baby elephant’s mother probably died in a fight with other elephants the day before, most likely while trying to defend him.

The Trust is optimistic that Bumpy will eventually join other hippos as he grows, but right now, he’s happily living the good life with his keepers, playing in small pools and relaxing in bean bags.
Posts about a baby rhino named Bumpy have become very popular on X (formerly Twitter), with many people commenting on how calm he appears when he’s with his keepers.
“He knows he is safe now,” one commented. “Keeper Joseph’s kindness is quite apparent.”
Someone commented that Bumpy is the cutest thing they’ve seen all year, and they just want to hug him!
