Boy’s $22 lemonade stand cancer fundraiser gets $100k donation after viral response

A young boy, 12 years old, started a lemonade stand and earned $22.25 for cancer research. His fundraising efforts unexpectedly took off when someone anonymously donated $100,000.

Rowan Rieve, a young patient battling brain tumors since 2021, started a fundraising stand after discovering how difficult it was to get funding for childhood cancer research. He then generously donated all the money he raised to the hospital providing his care.

Rowan’s donation leads to $100K contribution

Rowan visited the hospital and gave doctors $22.25 he collected with his friends, explaining he wanted to help other kids being treated there, according to WSB-TV.

His initial donation sparked a wave of similar contributions from others. Then, an anonymous donor gave a remarkable $100,000, according to reports. People also shared a photo of Rowan with his doctor, proudly displaying a check for that same generous amount.

Dr. Tobey MacDonald, Rowan’s doctor specializing in brain cancer, explained to People magazine that the outpouring of support showed how much of a positive influence Rowan has on people.

She said she wasn’t surprised by the enthusiastic response, explaining that Rowan naturally brings hope and positivity to people.

Rowan was first diagnosed with cancer when she was eight years old and has been bravely fighting the disease ever since. She’s had several treatments, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, and unfortunately continues to receive new diagnoses.

Even so, he expressed a desire for the money to be used to benefit others, stating, “I thought the hospital needed it more than I did.”
